It is NOT a user friendly gadget.
It has NO storage on the ereader itself- You put everything on an SD card.
It says it reads PDFs which it sort of does- the only thing is it kind of "blinks" when turn pages. It takes a second to completely load the next page- really irritating...
Anyway it says it reads epubs but... get this you have to download another piece of software so that function isn't built in and... it doesn't come with a user manual, you have to go on the computer and download that too AND once you do download the user manual and read it. The user manual will tell you to download another piece of software to read epubs WHICH DOES NOT WORK on the cruz tablet!!! So after half an hour on the phone waiting for the tech guy- who was actually good. The tech guy says yeah that software doesn't work, you have to download and install this other piece of software and THEN you can read epubs. What a hassle. Actually this other piece of software does work and you can use it to read epubs. Just remember everything goes on your SD card not the reader itself. That includes that new piece of software you downloaded. What's the use of having a removable SD card if you can never remove it? Also, it comes preloaded with a microsoft office clone so you can read word docs. That preloaded software doesn't work on the Cruz which the tech guy will tell you that when you finally get in touch with him.
For three HUNDRED dollars, I want everything to work as ADVERTISED!! I don't want to have to download and install another piece of software to make it work. I'd also like it to be somewhat user friendly.
I gave up on the Cruz tablet and bought a Nookcolor for 249. Fifty dollars cheaper than the piece of poo Cruz tablet.
It's lighter, more user friendly, works as advertised and is everything I was looking for when I "upgraded" to that other piece of poo.
My only regret is I don't feel it's right to try and sell it on ebay or Craig's list.
I know. I download files and share files. You would think that I would not feel a stab of moral conscience when it comes to selling it but... that's the way it is.

Happy New Year everyone!

My husband bought me a Kindle for christmas and I have spent over £50 on books for far, I read alot quicker than reading a paperback. I still have loads of books to read when for when I have a soak in the bath.
I do love my Kindle though its great, I am a little obssesed with it it at the moment though.

I did a lot of searching and learning about ereaders before I made a decision, looked at a lot of reviews and based on my needs the Sony 900 Daily Touch Edition was the best (that was before the 950 came out, don't know what the difference between them) for what I wanted in a reader.
I was worried about the difference between the reader, paperback and computer. The plus on the reader is that I am getting old (LOL) and my eyesight isn't that good, I need to be able to enlarge the print. The reader allows me to do that. I like the dictionary, I hate not knowing what a word means and so I don't have to look it up. I like the touch screen, I used the tip of my fingernail, even though I have the stylus.
The pages flip fast, I was usually starting to turn the page in my pb books and reading the last words as I turned it. With the reader, I have to wait and finish the page, and it turns fast. These is no eyestrain, which is a huge plus also.
The only problem I have had is that sometimes when I mean to turn the page it thinks I am looking up a word, but that is when the last line is so close to the bottom.
I intend to buy most of my books for my ereader now, two reasons; one is that my daughter does't seem, no matter how manay times I have talked to her, to realize that she is rough on my books. Not to eat or drink near them, or toss them. So, with an ereader I can't share my books (cowardly, but I hate fighting, I would rather find a way to avoid it).
Second is that I am running out of room, and this will make hubby happy plus not let him know how many books I have. He doesn't like to read so he thinks I have too many already (around 400).
I will buy paperback only in series that I am continuing, all new series or standalones will be for my ereader.

I have kindle for pc and have 16 books on there to read already. I'm just worries I will do the same as i did for the sony.
The Kindle can read pdf files right? I have a few on my computer that i had on my sony will they work on the kindle? I'm worried i will be limited to amazon books.

Um, wireless? That's the only thing that stopped me from buying it. Well, that and the price. Otherwise, it felt good to hold, better than the Kindle because it was lighter and fit in my hand better.
The wireless makes all the difference, IMO, for updates and almost instant access to any books you buy from Amazon and others you can send via the Kindle email address.

I have a Sony ereader and love it, mainly due to the fact that I can check out books from my library's digital site. I'm not sure what other readers have that option available. I have wireless on mine, although I know there are a variety of models. A lot of sony users like the free library software calibre for file manipulation. I haven't figured it out yet.

I bought mine seveal months ago (900, Daily Edition). Have downloaded aroundd 130 books (freebied) from several sites, mainly MobileRead.com They are classics and some scifi from others and a mixture of others.
What I had wanted was the size of the screen, not too big, but not too small, LOL. With it being 7 inches I can fit it into my purse. I have no trouble seeing the screen and am able to increase the size of the font. I like the touch screen, although I switch through using my fingernail (or stylus) and the buttons. I like the dictionary also. Haven't yet used the other features, but so far I haven't read any bad remarks.
There is a glare on the screen, but that is caused mainly by the lighting, you have to have good lighting. I have yet to try a booklight to see if that will cut the glare down.
Love how long the battery last (varies depending on use), with just reading a couple hours a day it lasted fro around two weeks, I think.
The only negative so far, and it isn't Sony fault, I would have it with any reader, is that when I installed Calibre (really great for keeping records of contents and such) it doesn't accept the DRM books. Which I stupidly bought from Deisel. So, I have to either delete Calibre and add back the Adobe library or find a way to strip the DRM so I can read the books I bought.

Thanks!

I was mad, I couldn't actually try out the kindle, I seriously read the amazon kindle pages hundreds and hundreds of times, looked at peps reviews + review videos, got GR members opnions. and plus theres a 30 day free trial, I could send it back.
When I got it I became addicted with it and realized I would never return it b/c I couldn't possibly part wit it. I made the right choice. B&W, THANK YOU! Color while reading is just too distracting to me, the pages click just like that, there is no delay. the menu is easy to use. I had no problems wit the kindle as of yet...oh, yea. it really is thin as a pencil! The perfect size. really I mean absoultely perfect. I couldn't think of another size.
I had seen the kindle DX before in the store recently and I know it was like 300 something, but the size, NO WAY! It was just too big.

It's also very easy and comfortable on the eyes. The electronic feel to it disappears while you read, and almost makes you feel like you're immersing yourself in an actual book. It's the perfect ereader if you're looking for something simple without other apps to distract you from your reading experience! :)

I will say, I think which Ereader you want is really a personal choice. They are all pretty similar (especially Nook and Kindle), and in the end it depends on what you need and want your ereader to do. Just like Laraine said about the library not being compatible that only matters if you use it. So my suggestion is do the comparisons and decide what features really matter to you and decide that way. I put Nook vs Kindle vs Sony in search engine and I found tons of websites that had done all the major comparisons.
Hope this helps! And Good Luck!

I agree with what's been said, it really does depend on what you need in an ebook reader. Additionally, you should consider that there are pros and cons to every ebook reader and you should decide what would tick you off and what you can live with.
I have Gen 3 Cybook which I love and which used to occasionally need to be reset due to some glitch, it was annoying but it was something I can live with. Incidentally, I've update my firmware and it's good to go now.
I've found this website to be super helpful: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/foru...
It will give you an idea of the different types of ebook readers out there (more than kindle and nooks) and what people have found to be the pros and cons.

I hope so! Although it will probably depend on whether the EU Commission decide that there has been price fixing going on or merely price setting which as far as I know isn't anti-competitive.

Thanks!"
I've had a Kobo and now I have a Kindle3. The Kobo is horrible. It stopped working after 6 months and no one could help me, plus they wanted me to pay for a replacement! I ordered my Kindle3 and I've never been happier. The ink is crisp, the pages turn fast, and its easy to use. My cousin got a Nook Color at the same time and its heavy and rather clunky.

There are two features that the Nook has that the Kindle doesn't have and to me they are not worth valuing the Nook over the Kindle -- but everyone has different opinons (touch screen page turner and visual image of the covers). Now why did I get the Nook if I love my Kindle so much? I read about 20-30 books a month and I don't like reading paper books. I had been buying books and checking out books from the library, but I found myself not enjoying reading the paper books as much b/c I love my kindle so much. So I got a refurbished Nook for $100 to check out ebooks from the library -- the only reason. If I had found an inexpensive Sony, I would have preferred to get a Sony. So, if checknig out library books is important to you, then I would consider all your options out there -- not just the Nook, consider Sony and read on the mobile forum linked above, b/c there are other ereader options that can do ePub with DRM and ADE. Also, check out your local overdrive library system at overdrive.com and figure out if your local library actually has a decent selection of ebooks to make it worth it. However, if checking out ebooks from the library isn't a big deal for you (either you don't mind buying most of your books or you are still going to check out paper books from the library), then definitely go for a Kindle.
One of the worst things about the Nook is the B&N customer service. Like I said, I got the Nook solely to do library books. When I buy books I use my Kindle, I just prefer it. However, I received a $20 gift certificate to B&N, so I was forced to get some books from B&N. There was an error in the purchase of a book and the wrong book was purchased, it took over 5 weeks and 7 phone calls to get the book out of my library and get my money back. Two customer service representatives transferred me out on purpose bc they didn't want to deal with the problem and the last person was so mean and rude with me. And the funny thing is, I had an accidental e-book purchase with Amazon several months ago -- one single 5 minute telephone call with a super pleasant Amazon CS rep solved the problem. I will never never never buy any ebook from B&N again. (I know never say never) And I may sell my B&N gift cards or give them away if I ever get anymore! I often raved about the Amazon CS, but I am really shocked at the level of how bad it got with B&N. I know this is an unusual circumstance and I know that most people won't have to expereince it but I will not take the chance of putting myself through that stress again. Plus as I wrote about above, I account share with several friends on Amazon, so it only makes sense to have my purchases be beneficial to my friends.
I know we all have different opinions, so I hope I don't offend and Nook fans, if you love yours that is great and I am so glad. :) I don't hate my Nook, I like it and enjoy reading on it. I would just choose my Kindle over it, and if I could would have bought a Sony instead of a Nook -- but I do hate B&N customer service.

I'm not discrediting what happened to Regina at all, it's really a bummer when you have to deal with that crap. I just wanted to make it known I have had a very different experience with BN, and they have created a pretty loyal customer (at least online)with me:) And to be fair I have never personally dealt with Kindle customer serivice. I do have a friend who sold their Kindle and bought a Nook Color, but I don't think it had anything to do with customer service. I think it really depends on what you like!
I do agree with everyone about how chunky and heavy the Nook Color is! I was shocked when I first held it. I don't think I will be trading my Nook Classic for the Nook Color anytime soon! But I also wouldn't get rid of my Nook for anything! I love it:)

Can I share content with other Kindles?
You can enjoy your Kindle content on Kindle devices or Kindle applications that are registered to your Amazon.com account. There may be limits on the number of devices (usually six) that can simultaneously use a single book. Subscriptions to newspapers or periodicals cannot be shared on multiple devices. You can see all your Kindle content and send downloads to your registered Kindles or Kindle applications from the "Your Orders" section of the Manage Your Kindle page.
Learn more: Manage Your Kindle
I share my account with about 6 people and I access about 6 people's accounts. We don't leave our accounts connected. This is how it works.
1. Get the other person's sign in and password.
2. Deregister your Kindle from your account (from the settings page on your kindle).
3. Register your kindle to your frined's accont (from the settings page on your kindle).
4. Immediately, all your folders dissapear, but everything 1) not in a folder and 2) hard loaded from your computer (not downloaded) stays on the kindle.
5. Go to archives (it will now be your friend's archives) OR go to her Manage Your Kindle Content on amazon.com and send/download the books you want to your Kindle (which is now registered to her account).
6. Once you have the books you want, deregister from her account (same as above.)
7. Register back into your account (same as above).
8. Your folders/collections will re-apear, all the books you downloaded from your friend's accounts are STILL (yippee!) on your kindle and also all the books you have hard loaded onto your kindle are there. So basically -- everything is there. I have never put the books I downloaded from friend's accounts into a Collection as I am afraid it wouldnt come back when I re-register -- anyone done this?
Right now I have alot of books on my kindle from my 6 friends' accounts -- it is a wonderful thing and they have books from my account, and it is all legal and abvoe board. :) I hope this helps.

It is an amazing feature. I love it. Now amazon is allowing sharing and delivering wirelessly to kindles of audible.com audio books.
