Katherine | 12 comments I'm thrilled to share an exciting new review of my memoir, "The Box of Daughter," by Paul Collins of the Nashua Telegraph in NH. Here's a teaser:

“Every now and then, a book comes along that’s written in such a compelling and gripping way that the narrative has the power to stay with you long after you’ve read the last page. Such is the case with “The Box of Daughter” by Maine author Katherine Mayfield… At its core, “The Box of Daughter” reveals what can only be seen as being a triumph of the human spirit.”

David P Forsyth (daidpforsyth) | 16 comments I want to share two great reviews last week on my second book, Flotilla of the Dead, in which the readers report dreams about my book. Anyone else suffering these symptoms? :)

"I'm a simple man. so all I really need in life is a good horse, a good saddle and a good book. I got the horse, I got the saddle, and now by golly, I got the book. This is an outstanding Zombie series that just keeps getting better, and I've read alot of Zombie books. Mr. Forsyth is a superb story teller. I don't usually dream about books, but I dreamed about this one 2 nights running. It's just one of those books I didn't want to end (thank God there's a 3rd one coming)."

&

"...I love the story, all of the characters, the idea, and the author. I have recommended this over and over again to friends, who love zombies as much as I do. It's also gotten to the point where I'm having badass zombie dreams after reading at night, and I love it when a good book isn't ready to let go of my mind even when I have finished reading it. These are books I will revisit over and over again."

I'm glad they don't describe their zombie dreams as nightmares. It seems that this is the type of zombie apocalypse they WANT to dream about! ;)

Just checking in. I have four historical fiction books out. Three are part of a cycle set in Egypt. I'm finishing a fourth, which is a sequel to the first in the cycle. The original three are what you would call Historical Mysteries - a mystery in an historical setting. The current offering has no mystery. It tells the story of the death of a son and brother, and its effect on the family. The younger brother must become a man - and the father, who is a king, must learn that he is a man as well as a king. It's been fun. Here's the cover for the one that is under construction:

I also have a GR giveaway on another of mine:

So true. I am reading about the Tudors and am amazed at the various ways Mary. Henry VIII's eldest daughter is portrayed
In one book she is a brave and independent Queen and in others she is a radical Catholic - burning heretics left and right and earning the name Bloody Mary. A lot seems to depend on the author and their point of view

Rick wrote: "am amazed at the various ways Mary. Henry VIII's eldest daughter is portrayed ..."

Some of my friends and I were discussing this very situation. In A Crown For Elizabeth, the author does a very good job showing what Mary (and Elizabeth) had to live through.

'Bloody Mary' was apparently inaccurate. But seeing all that she and her sister Elizabeth went through before they became queens, it's a wonder that more heads did not roll - or that they were not completely broken.

Thanks for having me. I will get off my promotional soap box and try to contribute and behave as best I can.

Minnie (minnieestelle) | 148 comments Here I am again. Must keep reminding people of my work. The latest is in paper back. When I finally get a new computer--because this one keeps crashing--I will publish "Whispers from the Mirror" on Kindle.

The premises is about Brianna, a feminist well into her forties, realizing she is hiding behind activism and feminism to avoid love.

It is not Chick Lit or a romance novel. It has a bit of paranormal with "Mirror-Lady" as the 'star'. She is an apparition and Brianna's guardian angel who appears in her bathroom mirror at will. You've never read a guardian angel quite this funny. She follows Brianna around, even into places she shouldn't be. They communicate telepathically (is that a word?).

For now "Whispers from the Mirror" is in paper back and available on amazon.com.

Welcome new members.

Thank you, Minnie E

P.S. you can also take a peek inside.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments Introducing a new voice in the world of epic fantasy, A. Katie Rose. In A Wolf's Eyes, first in The Saga of the Black Wolf series, is now available as an ebook worldwide.

In a Wolf's Eyes by A. Katie Rose In a Wolf's Eyes by A. Katie Rose

Raine is a slave, a gladiator. Known as the Bloody Wolf, he is the champion of all champions in the Empire of Khalid. Ly’Tana is a warrior princess of Kel’Halla and is set to wed the heir to Khalid’s throne, Crown Prince Broughton. When Raine and his new wizard pal, Rygel, accidentally murder the High King, they set in motion events which rapidly spiral out of control. Ly’Tana discovers the true, and violent, nature of her betrothed, a man nicknamed Prince Brutal for his vicious nature, and escapes her marriage.

Brutal will stop at nothing to have her for his wife. To entice his runaway bride into a trap, he brings down and captures her griffin bodyguard, Bar. Ly’Tana vows to have Bar back or die trying, and seeks the help of Raine and Rygel, to free Bar from Brutal’s clutches. In doing so, Raine and Ly’Tana are forced to flee for their lives, hunted by Brutal’s secretive assassins.

Can they escape the hunters and their silent, evil hounds? Can Ly’Tana evade Brutal’s hungry need to marry her and seize her beloved country? Can Raine keep Ly’Tana alive and still save himself from capture and torture? Can they stop themselves from falling in love?

Thus begins the first novel of The Saga of the Black Wolf series.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments An oppressed people, a violent struggle for power, the drumbeat of war... and two people vying for love. Untreed Reads presents our latest sweeping epic, out now worldwide!

The Manchurian Princess by N. E. Luciano The Manchurian Princess by N. E. Luciano

The Manchurian Princess is a romance set in the time of the building of the Great Wall of China — to many, a time of great betrayal by the Boy Emperor, Shihuangdi. He had at first welcomed those who fought with him to vanquish the various kingdoms that had chosen to remain independent, and so opposed and prevented the country from becoming united. But now that he had emerged as the victor, his overriding obsession was to build a “wall of defense” against the wild peoples beyond. Not a bad idea in itself, except that, for the most part, the ones to build it were to be non-Chinese, which included many of his former allies…such as Manchurians. What was worse, even unacceptable, was that those conscripted were to be no better than slaves, millions of them, as the task was superhuman.

Xu Lu Xun, over-lord of Manchurian Najinjiang, resists the arrogant, arbitrary enslavement. He rebels against this edict which results in war with the Han Chinese.

It is in this war, then, that his daughter, Yan Shan, becomes involved; and, with her, Wes Reinhardt, an American from our time who, mysteriously, finds himself in the year 221 BC.

What these two experience together — war and death and love and hope — makes for a sweeping epic of a story.

About Author N.E. Luciano:

Norbert E. Luciano has served as a news-correspondent for publications in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Macao. While in Hong Kong, he wrote Early to Rise, a satire on the Chinese commune system which he drew good reviews. He also taught English there and, later, in the Public School System in New York City.

Luciano holds a BA in English and an MA in Education and had, at one time, taken courses in creative writing at the University of Chicago. He’d also pastored churches in New York and New Jersey for many years. Now retired, in Delaware, he spends his time writing.

Poems and short pieces have been published in E-Zines like Word Catalyst, Mad Swirl, Calliope Nerve, Cynic Online, The View From Here (#19) and The Silk Journal. A short novel Running Tall was published by Cantaraville, #11, in July of 2010. Luciano has also just self-published, through Create Space/Amazon, The Qilin, the story of a girl and her Chinese unicorn.

Luciano is currently at work on two novels, The Church in Kai Ma’s House on the persecuted church in China, and The New Day Project on how the USA is paying China what it owes by leasing her land—in the USA—to raise food for that country.

How to Purchase The Manchurian Princess:

The Manchurian Princess is $4.99 from The Untreed Reads Store. When you purchase from our store, you receive five of the most popular formats all for the same price: EPUB (compatible with Nook and most other readers), HTML, MOBI (for Kindle devices), PDB (for Palm Reader) and PDF.
