Richard Godwin | 6 comments Benoit LeLievre reviews my novel Mr. Glamour at Dead End Follies. Here's a sample

Her Cartier sunglasses did little to hide her discomfort, She wanted to wear cheap clothes, like the mothers at the supermarkets, and hide behind brands that had no cachet. The enjoyment of being watched was gone from her, and she wondered if there were places she could go anonymously and blend into a crowd, lost among the little people she never know.

There are various ways to stand out in the overcrowded literary landscape, if you're not the second coming of Francis Scott Fitzgerald. Richard Godwin is a writer that found his method to success but mixing up skills, originality and absolute fearlessness in order to push the boundaries of certain genres. APOSTLE RISING, published last year, was one of the first psychological thrillers I've read that went beyond the ghost of Thomas Harris. MR. GLAMOUR explores the same format, but goes in another direction. I'd like to tell you it goes in the opposite direction of APOSTLE RISING, but the reality is far more abstract. Not only it's a novel that makes its own path, but it's taking more inspiration outside literature. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you MR. GLAMOUR a fine-and-dandy, over-the-top, GIALLO extravaganza of a novel. Yep, you heard me.

You can read it all here

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments In a time of hardship and struggle jealousy takes hold. Untreed Reads presents this historical mystery, available now as an ebook.

For the Good of the Clan by Miles Archer For the Good of the Clan by Miles Archer

Ulat, the best hunter in the village, is dead. Ledeth, the aging shaman, must prepare the body so the victim’s spirit may rest. Many of the Clan are lost to the innumerable hazards of their world, but when Ledeth realizes Ulat’s death was the deliberate act of another human, he must find the killer – for the good of the Clan.

Five thousand years before Sherlock Holmes or The Murders in the Rue Morgue, there was crime. And where there is crime, there are those committed to justice.

For, without justice, we are nothing more than clever apes.

A novelette.

About Author Miles Archer:

Miles Archer is the pseudonym of a Pacific Northwest writer. He believes that the work is more important than the worker, and so uses the semi-privacy of pen names. He is the author of many short stories and novels, under his mystery/crime pen name, and fantasy/SF under the name Jack Rice.

David Smith (DaveSmith) | 12 comments Dillinger Flakewaiter takes lead in his belly, does some fun time in the Hanoi Hilton, then saves the world. You are invited to join him on his journey.

Writers AMuse Me Publishing is proud to share David Smith’s first novella, a quirky, hilarious, dark and sometimes disturbed romp through a POW’s mind, available in print and as an ebook worldwide.

Torture in the Garden of Eden by David Smith

How does one expedite torture? What happens in the mind of the tortured? Is it different for each soldier, each martyr? Only they know the answer. Perhaps Dillinger Flakewaiter, a soldier, a martyr, an everyday madman has written what it is that happens in the mind, the spirit, the body of the tortured, once the door clangs shut.

Dillinger Flakewaiter was a soldier in Vietnam. After taking lead in the belly while serving his country, he finds himself in a private room at the Hanoi Hilton where he does what he has to in order to survive, and he invites us along for the ride. A travelling road show/freak circus is his first stop on this crazy escape from the pain and anguish caused by his captors. After an encounter with a church-going damsel in distress and a torrid tumble with a Yugoslavian hooker, he then follows his own calling to a religious way of life. Bishop Flakewaiter of the Church of the Almighty yet Blessed Dollar Sign listens to God's voice, and with the help of Deacon Allonzo, Hiawatha Hyacinth and Haymon the giant, he does God's work. But is it really God who has taken Dillinger by the hand or is it instead the cold hard steel on steel slamming shut on his mind?

In Vonnegutian style, the reader is inside Dillinger's world, sharing his confusion and his thoughts. Always raucous, often irreverent, Torture in the Garden of Eden takes us on the wild ride that is, sadly, nothing more than a mental escape from the deliberate hell man inflicts on man.

About David Smith:

A true renaissance man, David hangs his hat in sunny Southern California. His other novels include: They Ate Peaches (about love in a hate-torn country) and Saskatchewan (A family saga set in the Canadian west). He has two volumes of ‘Prose-etry’ also available for purchase: Cocktails with Burty and As I Wander Through the Book of Life.

Watch for his psychological-thriller-Outskirts of Insanity, to be released this fall.

The issue comes out in mid-May. My controversial story, "The Honey Wagon," which earned second place in the Doris Betts Fiction Prize, will appear in the 2012 summer issue of the wonderful North Carolina Literary Review. David Smith (DaveSmith) | 12 comments Never Again, Forever

Global Warming was nothing more than a myth created by politicians to hide what was really happening to the world.

Writers AMuse Me Publishing is proud to share Mary Cote’s literary novel that follows the trials of a family in the fallout of an inevitable polar reversal.

Never Again Forever by Mary Cote
They lied. All of them; the politicians, the news anchors, the economists all lied when they talked about the economic ‘bump in the road’. They lied about global warming. They lied about everything. Rose Stanton, like everyone else, realizes this as she scrambles to pick up the pieces of her life and tries to hold them together. The economy has disintegrated. The corporate world has totally collapsed, destroying industries and communities in its wake. Global warming was really a polar reversal that has resulted in a loss of all satellite communications and total disruption in the electrical grid. Overnight, Rose and her family are tossed into an early 1900’s lifestyle, but she is determined to carry on.

Despite changing weather patterns, increased illnesses and a complete loss of electronic and computer capabilities, Rose, a new widow, watches her family rally to meet the challenges head-on. She opens her doors to others, including two of her son’s friends, both soldiers returning from a war that could not be won without high-tech weapons. The war at home continues, though, as lawlessness and despair run rampant. The family soon learns that even in these hard times, greed and opportunism could well be the greatest threat. It is a lesson that may well cost the Stanton family everything. There can be no happy ending to this story.

About Mary Cote:

Mary writes her books while sitting under a cherry tree in the middle of nowhere, British Columbia, gaining inspiration from her two sons, and Herbert the WonderDog. Her books Ayne and Redemption have both been nominated for Independent Book Publishers Awards (IPPYs). Her novel The Red of Flowing Blood I See about a 1960’s draft dodger will be released next month.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments A cross-country spree of self-discovery and growing up, Celia on the Run is now available worldwide, published by Untreed Reads.

Celia on the Run by Sarah Mandell Celia on the Run by Sarah Mandell

Nick Novaczek is a cautious soul, a 17-year old with a boring life, a predictable future, and a quiet thirst for danger. On the eve of his beloved grandmother’s funeral, danger finds him by the motel swimming pool. Her name is Celia and she’s everything he’s not. This foul-mouthed beauty is hitchhiking across the country to make amends with her estranged father and doesn’t carry an ounce of fear or hesitation in her tattered suitcase. She’s bad news all around, but for a rule-follower like Nick, she’s intoxicating.

Twenty-four hours after speaking to Celia for the very first time, following one extremely lucky night, Nick is hopelessly hooked and “borrows” his parents’ car to join her cross-country mission, even though her story is full of holes. It’s the mistake he’s been waiting his whole life to make. Together, they dodge a train, jump off a bridge, and scam everyone in their path. Nick is blossoming into a teenage fugitive, just like Celia, and he’s never been happier. She may not be who she says she is, but she’s got his vulnerable heart.

After weeks of detours, with hundreds of miles left to go, their wild adventure starts to unravel. The money dries up, Celia’s dark secrets begin to surface, and it’s clear they both want vastly different things out of this partnership. Celia is all about no strings attached and severing whatever they may have between them once they reach their destination, while Nick is head over heels in love and wanting a future with the girl in his passenger seat. They seem to reach a new low on a daily basis, but she won’t turn back, no matter how desperate things get. After all, this is her trip and Nick is just the driver. Celia’s got a charming smile to pay her way, a willing accomplice, a hidden agenda, and an endless supply of lies. Not to mention a gun.

About Author Sarah Mandell:

Sarah Mandell works as an interior designer in the upstate of South Carolina in addition to running her hobby-turned-small-business of recycled leather jewelry and quirky fiber art. Writing coming-of-age fiction is by far her most rewarding creative outlet. This is her first published novel.

How to Purchase Celia on the Run:

Celia on the Run is $4.99 from The Untreed Reads Store in a variety of formats, including PDF, EPUB and Kindle formats. You’ll also find the titles at virtually every ebook retailer around the world including Amazon, B&N, Apple, Kobo, WHSmith and Waterstone’s.

Writers AMuse Me Publishing is proud to share David Smith’s They Ate Peaches, a story about a unique mixture of love and multi-racial characters who travel from the congested streets of New York City to the blood-soaked soil of Israel.

They Ate Peaches by David Smith

Jacob is a neurotic laborer. While enroute to Israel and his roots, he stops in New York City where he meets David, a successful surgeon. The two become lovers, and David agrees to meet Jacob in Tel Aviv. Jacob introduces David to the formidable, lovely Charlotta Weiss, a former soldier whom men fear and women envy. The trio takes their friendship to the bedroom where gender is no longer important. They experience a love that compares to no other, yet feels right.

When David is injured by a terrorist bomb, he realizes the moral desire within him to give back to the people and the land. The three decide to build a hospital in the middle of the war torn country. Their mission is to provide care, without prejudice, to anyone who needs it. They are met with brutal hatred and violence.

Bombs, earthquakes, collapsed buildings, terrorists and the Israeli secret service try to break the bond between these three lovers, but do not succeed. Centuries-old hatred, however, could be the one thing to destroy them.

An intriguing story for children, the book also has progressives in mind. It is about unemployment and the devastating impact it has on children. Many topics such as poverty, discrimination, child abuse, humiliation and homelessness are discussed and, as in all Behrangi's writings, there is a path to identify causes of those problems and find solutions for them.

Norm Schriever (normscriever) | 2 comments 'Pushups in the Prayer Room' by Norm Schriever. Ebook for 99cents, sample chapters and more info at www.NormSchriever.com.

In the spring of 1999, Norm Schriever leaves his old life behind and backpacks around the world for a year, not returning to the US until the spring of 2000. Throughout his journeys he touches down in more than 20 countries in 6 continents, spanning 70,000 miles total, or the equivalent of almost three times around the equator.

There is never a dull moment on this wild and irreverent adventure, whether Norm is evading armed carjackers in a high-speed chase in the barrios of Venezuela, exploring ancient wonders of the world like the pyramids, the Great Wall, and Machu Picchu, almost landing in Bolivian jail for mistakenly being accused of cocaine trafficking, or witnessing the holiest sites on earth in Jerusalem. Along the way, Norm encounters a broad spectrum of human existence and experiences a blossoming of consciousness and spiritual growth that he never anticipated. What started out as a wild, raucous party trip evolves into a man's quest for his life's purpose in the world.

Pushups in the Prayer Room: A Year Backpacking around the World is an honest, no-holds-barred account of that year-long odyssey around the globe. Norm's writing, which is enlightening, gritty, filled with self-deprecating humor, yet always authentic, picks you up and carries you along on that crazy journey.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments Untreed Reads is pleased to announce the release of John Herbert's touching memoir. Rules Get Broken is now available as an ebook worldwide.

Rules Get Broken by John Herbert Rules Get Broken by John Herbert

John falls in love with Peggy the moment he meets her on New Year’s Eve. Nine years of marriage and two children later, nothing has changed. The beautiful Irish girl with the thick, black shining hair and sparkling, brilliant blue eyes is still the center of his world.

But when Peggy tells him one Saturday night in July that she can’t go sailing because she’s too tired to move, John’s concerned. When Peggy is diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia later that week, he’s terrified. And when she dies seventeen days later, he’s shattered, his world destroyed.

So why then just days after Peggy’s death does John call Nancy, the young woman who once lived next door, and ask her out to dinner? Why does Nancy say yes? And what happens when people ignore the rules of propriety and allow themselves to be drawn into a relationship they know will shock and offend family and friends? What price do they pay for breaking one of society’s most time-honored rules of behavior?

Rules Get Broken deals with love lost, love found, and the collateral damage along the way and demonstrates what love is…and isn’t.

John Herbert’s simple, elemental style, unique insight, and rare sensitivity make Rules Get Broken an unforgettable love story and a must-read.

About Author John Herbert:

John Herbert was born in 1946, in Freeport, New York. He graduated from The University of Rochester in 1968, and worked for thirty-six years in the printing and publishing industries. Michelle Birbeck (michellebirbeck) | 6 comments It's finally out! After a year of waiting and editing my first novel is finally out!

It's called The Last Keeper:

Fifteen hundred years ago, Serenity Cardea took the life of the only vampire she ever regretted killing—Henry, her sister’s husband. With her sister brutally murdered, Serenity had little choice but to grant Henry the only request he had: death. Centuries later, Serenity is no closer to discovering who betrayed them or instigated the massacre of her brothers and sisters.

The vampires want dominance—over their food, the other races . . . the world. To get it, they’ve systematically hunted down and slaughtered the only ones standing in their way. The Keepers.

As a Keeper, Serenity is tasked with protecting the delicate balance between the creatures of the world: Vampire, Witch, Were, and Human. Her kind exists to ensure that no single race sways the balance, dooming the world to destruction.

They're on the brink of extinction, with no sign of return. Now only two remain, and Serenity’s last brother is facing death, leaving her standing alone against a never-ending tide of vampires, all wanting one thing: power.

Then she meets Ray Synclair, a history professor in training with a passion for centuries past, and the harsh reality of her limited time comes crashing down on her. He is her weakness. His mortality is the countdown on Serenity’s life, and with each passing second, it comes closer to the end, for both of them.

She must uncover the secrets of her people’s past and find out who betrayed them—and who is still doing so—before it’s too late.

Serenity’s days are numbered, and Ray will be drawn into a world of myth and legend, where just being alive is enough to get him hunted down.

Because the only way to kill a Keeper is to kill their partner . . .

and there's a free ebook sample on the publisher's website: http://ph.thewriterscoffeeshop.com/bo...

as well as the paperback and ebook copies. And you can also buy the ebook through amazon both in the UK and the US!
