Sheila (sheilalynn) | 206 comments Sonia's Read-a-Thon Question #1
Q. What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?

So far my favorite book is Drift The Unmooring of American Military Power by Rachel Maddow . It was really informative and interesting.

Ashley Marie's Read-a-Thon Question #2
Q. What series makes you wish the author would write faster?

I don't have any series books that I am really excited about. I suppose the third Divergent book.

Mary's Read-a-Thon Question #3
Q. What is your favorite book cover of books you've read? What did you like about it?

My favorite book cover is probably
Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore

Evana's Read-a-Thon Question #4:
Q. Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you will like it?

My friend Kelsey always has really good recommendations.

TheButterflyEffect's Read-a-Thon Question #5
Q. Do you have a favourite book that you've read this year, which has been adapted into either a movie or a television show?

I just read The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick and I really enjoyed the movie too.

Barb's Read-a-Thon Question #6:
Q. What author can you simply not stand? You wouldn't read his/her books if you were paid to!

I really dislike Paulo Coehlo. I hated The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Lizz's Read-a-Thon Question #7
Q. Have you started any new series this year? If yes how many?

Yes, I only started one series.

Sheila's Read-a-Thon Question #8
Q. What book that you read this year made you think the most...ya know the one that three days later your still muling over.

The Turn of the Screw by Henry James and The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick but for different reasons. I do not understand The Turn of the Screw, so I am reading critiques of it. I just feel like I missed something. And then I work in an Adult Mental Health Unit at a hospital so The Silver Linings Playbook is right up my alley and I have been discussing it with everyone I know.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Evana's Read-a-Thon Question #4:
Q:
Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you will like it?
A: A very good friend of mine. There wasn't a single book he recommended to me that I didn't like.

TheButterflyEffect's Read-a-Thon Question #5
Q:
Do you have a favourite book that you've read this year, which has been adapted into either a movie or a television show?
A:Not this year. I've started Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies, #1) by Isaac Marion but I have no intentions of seeing the movie and I doubt that the book will be a favorite.

Barb's Read-a-Thon Question #6:
Q:
What author can you simply not stand? You wouldn't read his/her books if you were paid to!
A: I would say L.J. Smith and P.C. Cast Kristin Cast. The Vampire Diaries series was a struggle, after book 3 I can't even look at the covers. And House of Night series, although I've read till book 6, the ending of the book was the final straw... the whole series was beginning to be tiresome and I just can't read it anymore.

Lizz's Read-a-Thon Question #7
Q:
Have you started any new series this year? If yes how many?
A:11. Really? Oh wow. let me check (series and first book read)
Elemental Assassin - Spider's Bite
Lunar Chronicles - Glitches
World of the Lupi - Tempting Danger
Night Huntress - Halfway to the Grave
Beautiful - Beautiful Disaster
Temperance Brennan - Déjà Dead
Alexa O’Brien, Huntress - Once Bitten
Graveyard Queen - The Restorer
Black Dagger Brotherhood - Dark Lover
Cassandra Palmer - Touch the Dark
Rhiannon's Law - Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between

Sheila's Read-a-Thon Question #8
Q.
What book that you read this year made you think the most...ya know the one that three days later your still muling over
A.
Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher and Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma . I still feel conflicted every time I think of them.

Post a phase/Paragrah to continue the storie.

Post #1:
Sonia was walking on the park when a sparkling caught her attention. She stepped close to the source and behind a bush there was a big, red...

Post #2:
Apple with a bite mark like someone was just eating it and was suddenly vanished. But apples don't sparkle or reflect light so...

Tomorrow I will assembly all the posts together to see our little story. Just to be easy to identify, start the comment with Mini-challenge #2 : Write it with me post #number

So, do you want to write it with me?

Mini-challenge #2 : Write it with me post #1

It was a perfect summer day. Not a cloud in the sky. Boo left the bookstore with the brand new Magic Rises and was walking to her favorite reading space, under a strange and beautiful tree in a nearby park behind a row of perfect white...

Sashana Sonia's Read-a-Thon Question #1
Q. What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor . The writing was so rich and flawless IMO. I love the author's world building, the characters, the dialogue...I love that there isn't a love triangle and I love that the plot is so unique and unlike anything that I've ever read before!

Ashley Marie's Read-a-Thon Question #2
Q. What series makes you wish the author would write faster?

There are quite a few actually. Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, The Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins, His Fair Assassin by R.L. LaFevers, and Legacy of Tril by Heather Brewer

Mary's Read-a-Thon Question #3
Q. What is your favorite book cover of books you've read? What did you like about it?

Such a hard question because I'm a sucker for beautiful book covers! I can't list them all so I'll give you a few: Born Wicked (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1) by Jessica Spotswood The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross .

I love the gorgeous dresses, the bold colors, and the typography. I love the quality of the pictures themselves; they look like they belong in magazines or a gallery somewhere.

Evana's Read-a-Thon Question #4:
Q. Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you will like it?

My aunt knows what I like to read when it comes to contemporary romance novels. She always gets it right on that front. For other genres and sub genres I'm pretty much on my own because my friends and family have different reading taste than I do.

TheButterflyEffect's Read-a-Thon Question #5
Q. Do you have a favourite book that you've read this year, which has been adapted into either a movie or a television show?

Not really. I started watching Game of Thrones on HBO and I'm thoroughly addicted! But I haven't read the books yet. Will get to them soon though. Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver is in the process of becoming a TV show so I'm excited for that!

Barb's Read-a-Thon Question #6:
Q. What author can you simply not stand? You wouldn't read his/her books if you were paid to!

Cassandra Clare - I really don't get the hype about her. Plus she had some plagiarism scandal back in the day so I really don't understand how she has a shred of respect or credibility in the book world.

P.C. Cast - House of Night is seriously one of the worst series I've ever read. I don't think I'll ever read another book by this author again.

Lizz's Read-a-Thon Question #7
Q. Have you started any new series this year? If yes how many?

So far I've started 3 new series. The rest of my series have been continuations.

Sheila's Read-a-Thon Question #8
Q. What book that you read this year made you think the most...ya know the one that three days later your still muling over.

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor

Sashana's Read-a-Thon Question #9

I do miss Kate & Current. I like Andrea too, but although her book was quite good, I need my Kate fix.

Ilona Andrews now has two different series, Kate Daniels and Kate Daniels World - Gunmetal Magic was the first one on this series, next one will be Jim & Dali's book, I believe the POV will be Dali's. I'm hoping that, since I really liked her voice on Magic Dreams. Julie's short story also was pretty nice, I'm wondering if she'll do a whole YA book/series *dreamy eyes*

Q. What book that you read this year made you think the most...ya know the one that three days later your still muling over.
Ans: I'm such a one-answer-pony, but literally the only thing on my mind currently is Game of Thrones, so that is, of course, my answer.
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin

Sashana's Read-a-Thon Random Question #9

Hmm...
1. Sever by Lauren DeStefano(Already out, but I don't have it yet, so it counts)
2. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer(Again, already out, I know)
3. House of Hades by Rick Riordan(Seriously. The ending of Mark of Athena almost killed me)

I thought it was just one series and she decided to write about another character besides Kate. So it's kind of a spin off then. Interesting.

Q. What author can you simply not stand? You wouldn't read his/her books if you were paid to!
I don't know that I have a particular author that I hate, but I did decide to quit reading Janet Evanovich after reading two or three in a row that I didn't enjoy.

Lizz's Read-a-Thon Question #7
Q. Have you started any new series this year? If yes how many?
Technically, 11. Wow. However, I won't be continuing all of those. Probably about half of them.

Sheila's Read-a-Thon Question #8
Q. What book that you read this year made you think the most...ya know the one that three days later your still muling over.
Definitely Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher! Even now, when I think about, it makes my head spin and my emotions go all over the place. Such a great book.

Sashana's Read-a-Thon Question #9
Q. What are your top 3 most anticipated book releases of 2013?
Oh, Sashana. Why only 3? :-( After a lot of thought, here they are:
Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2) by R.L. LaFevers Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo
Although Isla and the Happily Ever After came close...

Got another problem: I just started reading Red Mist (Kay Scarpetta, #19) by Patricia Cornwell . When I select it for tracking the pages that I read. It shows there is 512 pages but the edition that I have only have 352. It's the hardback not the paperback and I can't find anything that has 352 pages when I try to change the edition. Do I keep the 512 pages or do I use one of the edition that is close to the 352 pages?

Nancy, post about it here, the "Page Numbers, Just About Page Numbers..." thread. Lisa Kay can help you out if you'd like to add your edition to Goodreads.

Otherwise, it doesn't really matter all that much to this challenge if you have the right edition selected, so long as the edition in question is over 170 pages.
