Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Speaking of credits, I stumble across a cool idea for a challenge, and already have the permission for using it, as long as I refer to the original post.

I want to tweak it a bit, maybe this weekend or the next the read-a-thon has priority, and then I'll send it to the mods for approval.

Day#1: Starting Point

Which is the first book you're going to read? Do you have a reading plan, or will grab a book depending on your mood? Are you tackling a series or different books? Share with us.

===========================================================

I probably went a little too nuts during my planning, but since I'm a bit of a mood reader, I wanted to have plenty of options.

So.. The Sonia's "Little" read-a-thon possibilities plan is:

Audiobooks (*)
Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) by Jim Butcher Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris

ebooks
Providence (Providence, #1) by Jamie McGuire Requiem (Providence, #2) by Jamie McGuire Eden (Providence, #3) by Jamie McGuire Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins Spell Bound (Hex Hall, #3) by Rachel Hawkins Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning Iced (Fever #6, Dani O'Malley #1) by Karen Marie Moning Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews Fate's Edge (The Edge, #3) by Ilona Andrews Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews The Alchemyst (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #1) by Michael Scott The Magician (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #2) by Michael Scott The Sorceress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #3) by Michael Scott The Necromancer (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #4) by Michael Scott The Warlock (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #5) by Michael Scott The Enchantress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #6) by Michael Scott Every Which Way But Dead (The Hollows, #3) by Kim Harrison A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison For a Few Demons More (The Hollows, #5) by Kim Harrison The Outlaw Demon Wails (The Hollows, #6) by Kim Harrison Mortal Danger (World of the Lupi, #2) by Eileen Wilks Blood Lines (World of the Lupi, #3) by Eileen Wilks Night Season (World of the Lupi, #4) by Eileen Wilks Mortal Sins (World of the Lupi, #5) by Eileen Wilks Blood Magic (World of the Lupi, #6) by Eileen Wilks Blood Challenge (World of the Lupi, #7) by Eileen Wilks Death Magic (World of the Lupi, #8) by Eileen Wilks

Paperbacks
The Eight by Katherine Neville The Fire by Katherine Neville Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins Eighty Days Yellow (Eighty Days, #1) by Vina Jackson

So, I'll be reading like 2 to 4 from these, if I get lucky, and maybe I'll spend more time deciding what to read than actually reading (let's hope not), but I like to have plenty of options in the open.

I'll be taking a picture later of my "reading preparation station" so you can see how really overboard about the RaT week I went.

Sure Nancy,

The Read-a-thon will last a week. During that week you'll commit to do a total of 24 hour reading, that you can split into 4 levels:
1. One 24-hour reading period.*
2. Two 12-hour reading periods.
3. Three 8-hour reading periods.
4. Four 6-hour reading periods.

* If you choose this option, you'll be committing to reading as much as you possibly can in a 24-hour period

This options are free to fit your schedule. For instance, if you choose to do a 3x8, you can do it 3 days in a row, every odd day, or even read a total of 16 hours in a day and 8 in another.

We need you to set a goal of number of pages to read, let's say you aim to read 25 pages per hour, so your goal will be 600 pages. Oh, and we like to now your time zone too.

Did I make sense? Sometimes brain gets lost in translation and my grammar suffers with that :(

Day#1: Starting Point

I've already planned out my books :) they were actually just randomly picked from those that have been ages on my TBR-pile....it's huge I usually just buy a bunch of books I want to read and I just end up buying even more books before I've even got around to reading the other ones so this is a great way to get through some of the books.

My picks
This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers The Lying Game (The Lying Game, #1) by Sara Shepard Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand
Total pages: 1456
(that exceedes my goal..so the 4th book I'm reading might not be finished within that 1 week. I'm planning on reading 1000 pages so that's what I'm aiming for within the 1st February.)

I'm not sure if I'm reading them in that order or not but I started This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers an hour ago. I'm like 3/4 through the book :(..it's so err depressing but ugh back to reading.

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 173 comments I'm starting my RaT period with Dark Designs (Half Lives, #1) by Luisa Prieto 255 pages; next will probably be Redoubt (Valdemar Collegium Chronicles, #4) by Mercedes Lackey because it is overdue at the library. I thought about doing it, but with my school work. i don't think i have the time. If I do it and I can't finish it, is it ok to say that i'm dropping out? Also, if i do this and i choose 4 6-hour reading periods, does that mean i read for 4 days for 6 hours each read? sorry, i'm still a little confused about it.

message 723: by Alexa (last edited Jan 25, 2013 12:09PM) (new)

Alexa | 118 comments Isn't it just simpler to say: You have 1 week, from the 25th to the 1st, you're meant to read for 24 hours - how you decide to spread out the hours during the week is up to you. You have a pages goal and yeah..you're just going to try and reach it.

Was that easier to understand? That's how I understood it..

message 724: by Erica (new)

Erica | 352 comments I'd like to join in too. My plan is 4x6 with with a goal of 1,000 pages. And I'm up in Alaska as far as the time zone goes. Thanks! Happy reading!

It is OK to drop out Nancy. Your books will still count to the team's challenge, and you will still reading and having fun trying.

Yes, the 4x6 hours reading means 4 days, for a perios of 6 hours. But, we don't expect you to read for 6 hours straight, the main goal is reading as much as you can during that time.

Why don't you give it a try, but if Real Life and School start to demand attention postpone to other time?

Don't get yourself into trouble because of a challenge. Yes, it is fun, but we'll do another for sure (at least I'm going to bug Mary till she can't stand me anymore to do another) and maybe you'll be less pressured by then.

LOL Reading plan? You saw my list of book choices, does it look like I have a plan? *grinning* My selections will be based on which book/s are due back to the library soonest, which book/s I need to finish challenges and which book/s I'm in the mood to read at that point in time. (Yes, I'm a moody reader too!)

At lunch today, I started Kinsey and Me: Stories, and it looks like it's going to be a fast read. I need to catch up on some other things tonight, but I plan to read, read and read some more the next four days :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Well, I already posted my "plan" a few posts before the first day mini challenge, so I'm not really going to repeat it because I'm lazy, lol. I think I will call my first day of the RaT done at 400/1000. I think I will read my next 8 tomorrow in hardbacks so I'll know exactly how many I get finished!
