Sad to hear that, I did loved the books, but, there are different genres and types for a reason... not everybody likes the same... and I'm glad it is that way...

I have no idea what to recomend...

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments @Nancy: have you tried the Iron Druid Chronicles? I've heard that the Dresden fans usually like it. First book is Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne

No I haven't. I'll see if my library has the book and check it out.

I think I found my 8th book, The Yard by Alex Grecian . I'm into a few pages in it and so far, it's good.

Barb I have that in my audiobook collection, Nancy, I'll be waiting to hear what you think of it when you finish :)

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 173 comments I'm about to start another online book that was written serially, but I don't have a page count for it - it is 83 chapters long though, so I'm guessing it would be 400+ pages. Will it count in this challenge?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Finished 6 -- The Edge of Winter by Luanne Rice , onto 7 -- Echo Park (Harry Bosch #12) by Michael Connelly . I may pick up one of the others that I've started but haven't read too much of yet, too. Sometimes I like to read a few books at once if they are each from a different genre.

Do you have a word count or a file size?

This was my second MJ Clark book, and I really liked both of them. My problem is that the first book I read was #9 in the KEY News series, and this one -- which is this month's book for our discussion group at work -- is #6. If I remember correctly, there's a major change in the personal life of one of the characters between these two books, and now I'm desperately trying to figure out how to work books 7 and 8 into my reading plan for the few weeks. I want to find out what happened -- and WHY!

THIS is why I'm usually so very adamant about reading series IN ORDER!! LOL

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "Sometimes I like to read a few books at once if they are each from a different genre."

I'm the same way. I'm currently reading The Far Traveler Voyages of a Viking Woman by Nancy Marie Brown , Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake , & Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne .
Their genres, in order: nonfiction, young adult paranormal, and adult urban fantasy.

Also, I'm exactly like Alexa and Barb... The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman is in hardcover, Anna Dressed in Blood is an ebook, and the only way to listen to the Iron Druid Chronicles (Hammered is #3) is on audio - Luke Daniels is a terrific narrator and I don't know if I'd be enjoying these books as much without his performance.

message 619: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jan 21, 2013 07:15PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman sounds pretty interesting! I'll have to see if they have it at my library. Also, I've been wanting to read the Iron Druid Chronicles but they only have them in e-format at my library. I have a hard time reading books on the screen but I may give it a try anyway. I feel like I have a better grasp of a story with traditional books and I like being able to flip back to a certain page if I want, without having to scroll or deal with a touch screen.

edit: Nope, no Viking woman book at my library! Oh well.

I'm reading The Far Traveler for my book club, and I have to say that the book is a disappointment so far. It's supposed to be about this amazing Viking woman named Gudrid who sailed all the way to the New World and such, but I'm over halfway through with it, and I haven't learned very much about her. Instead, I've learned about archeology and Viking culture and various Icelandic sagas. I mean, that stuff is interesting, but I want to know about Gudrid, not which type of turf is best for building a Viking-style turf house, or how many sheep Erik the Red might have owned.

Mandy: Responded in #616 above. If you don't have a page count for the whole book yet, maybe you do for the first chapter...and then we'll just multiply times 83? (Since they are coming to you chapter by chapter.)

I like it! It's very eery. I'm only a handful of chapters into it, as I'd been focusing on another book, but I can devote more time to it now.

message 634: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I just finished my 6th book Until You (Westmoreland, #3) by Judith McNaught which was a solid read. I can always count on Judith McNaught to deliver. I'm thinking about starting Boundless (Unearthly, #3) by Cynthia Hand but I am scared because it is the last book in the series. I don't want to be disappointed and I don't want the series to end!

If you read the responses to the DQs on our group discussion of the book (AFTER you finish reading - don't spoil yourself), you'll see we all felt that way. It definitely messes with your emotions.

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments 172 pages = legit, Suzanne! You're fine.

I've been thinking of (eventually) starting the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I don't like True Blood. Are they anything alike? I tend to like my urban fantasy with some romance, but not enough to overpower the story. Are the Sookie novels more PNR than urban fantasy?

No, they aren't. First book is closer to True Blood's first season, with a few plot differences, the next ones, they are NOTHING ALIKE.

They have plenty of smutty scenes, but Sookie has a lot of personality, not like the one on the TV series.

I'm planning on re-read the series this year, if you want to buddy read, let me know.
