Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments UnEnchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #1) by Chanda Hahn Looks like an intriguing premise, Sue. I can't read it now; however, as Mod, I can set it up for you as a "buddy read" and see if you get any takers. If you like.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Neat, Brenda and Kari. I'm having a harder time with this challenge than I though I would. I think I only have one book towards it.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments I only have three so far but I did get me a few books I need to read for it.

message 113: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I heard of a lot of books that I want to read for it, just having a hard time actually getting the books to read them!

message 114: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Yes, does buying books for the challenge count? LOL!

message 116: by Gigi (last edited Jun 14, 2013 08:44AM) (new)

Gigi | 102 comments Can you increase or decrease levels at later date? I'm torn between Ogre and Eye of Newt. I'd like to join. I love fairy tale retellings.

message 119: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Just finished reading Beastly by Alex Flinn which fits this challenge nicely.

UnEnchantedsounds like it may be good, I think I'll add it to my list for this challenge. I need more ideas of books for this one. I don't have many of this type of story.

message 120: by Helena (new)

Helena Fairfax (helenafairfax) | 29 comments Melissa, I've just started reading The Cinderella Deal, by Jennifer Crusie, which was recommended by Debs. Am loving it!! I'm British, and Jennifer Crusie isn't so well known in the UK, so was thrilled to discover her here. If you'd like another idea, my novel The Silk Romance is a Cinderella retelling.
I have UnEnchantednext on my TBR pile. I LOVE fairtale retellings and am so glad to have joined this group!

message 121: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Thank you for the ideas! They both sound good!

message 122: by Helena (new)

Helena Fairfax (helenafairfax) | 29 comments I just went to buy UnEnchantedfor this challenge, and found it's actually free on Amazon. A nice surprise! Thought I'd share the news on this thread. Also, if you're interested in giveaways, my Cinderella retelling The Silk Romanceis featured on Ravencraft's Romance Realm. Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Great, thanks, Helena!

message 124: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I enjoyed UnEnchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #1) by Chanda Hahn I like the twist on the Grimm family it took.

message 125: by Helena (new)

Helena Fairfax (helenafairfax) | 29 comments I'm halfway through UnEnchanted, Melissa, and I'm enjoying it. I like the bit where all the heroine's clothes turn red, forcing her to be Red Riding Hood. I wish the writing had been better edited (but that's just me reading with my writer's hat on!)It's a good twist on the fairy tales.

message 126: by Helena (new)

Helena Fairfax (helenafairfax) | 29 comments Thought you all might like to know that The Fall of the Misanthrope: I bitch, therefore I am (a Cinderella retelling by a fellow British author) is free on Amazon at the moment. You can read a review of it here: http://areadersreviewblog.com/2013/07...

It sounds funny, and right up my street!

message 127: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Read Curses! A F**ked Up Fairytale (F***ed-Up Fairy Tale #1) by J.A. Kazimer

It was a bit of a f***ked up fairytale but not at naughty as I had hoped it would be!

message 128: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments thanks, Melissa

message 130: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Fairy Tales and Ever Afters, Volume One by Danielle Monsch was a nice, sweet, and a little naughty read. I liked it.

message 131: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Thanks, Leslie

message 132: by Melissa (new)

Melissa The Rose and the Beast Fairy Tales Retold by Francesca Lia Block

Nine short stories retelling fairytales to fit modern times.

Some were really good (Charm & Wolf) some were OK. I had fun reading them.

message 133: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Thanks, Melissa

message 134: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments You're doing well at this one, Melissa. Good for you.

message 135: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Lisa Kay wrote: "You're doing well at this one, Melissa. Good for you."

Its a favorite genre of mine so this challenge was right up my alley!

message 136: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Your welcome Pamela! ^_^

message 137: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Had a nice rainy day today and I felt just a little bit under the weather so it was the perfect day for a pot of hot tea and this Once Upon a Tangled Tale by Bronwyn Wolfe .

It was a fun read perfect for this challenge!

message 138: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Glad you enjoyed it, Melissa! You are rocking this challenge.

message 139: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Cool beans! My book made in to a movie book Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine works for this challenge to!

message 140: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments I read that one and saw the movie. Since I saw the movie first, I think I liked it better.

message 141: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I like the movie better to. The movie was so much more fun than the book was. The book had a more serious tone to it.

message 142: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Yesterday was a cold, wet rainy day so I decided after finishing my to do list that curling up with a book and a blanket was a good idea. I picked Mirror, Mirror by J.D. Robb because I like JD Robb. Turns out all the books in the anthology were a twist of a fairy tale.

Taken in Death: Hansel & Gretel
If wishes were horses: Goldilocks & 3 Bears
Beauty Sleeping: Sleeping Beauty
The Christmas Comet: the Little Match Girl
Stroke of Midnight: Cinderella

I love it when a book I already plan to read fits right into a challenge!

message 143: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments cool! And yes, I too love it when it works for a challenge.

message 144: by Melissa (new)

message 145: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Did you read that, Melissa? I think I have it in Mt TBR.

message 146: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I did read it but it was a weird read for me I liked it when I was reading it but I didn't have any problem putting it down to do other things and wasn't in a hurry to pick it back up again. There were a lot of parts that bogged down but I think that was because it was the first in the series and there was a lot of explaining how the world worked instead of the hero and heroine interacting throughout.

I looked at the 2nd book in the series and it sounds interesting so I added it to my TBR because sometimes I don't like the first books in a series as well as the next ones.

message 147: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Thanks! I hope to get around to it someday :)

message 148: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Retelling of The Six Swans, it takes place in medieval Ireland, when Druid and Christian cultures first started to overlap. I really enjoyed it.

Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier

message 149: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Thanks, Melissa!

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments I just joined the Happily Ever After cafe a few days ago, so I only have 2 months for this challenge.

I wish I knew about this challenge earlier in the year.I guess I am at the troll level this year because I have already read 3 books from the Jenni James Fairytale collection; Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Hansel and Gretel. I also read my fair God Mother which references Cinderella.

I am currently working on reading the Violet Duke Nice Girl to love Series and am waiting for the next Susan Halter novella to come out, so I may not have time to complete a higher level for the challenge.

Hopefully the challenge will continue in 2014 so I can enter at Lady in waiting My Fair Godmother (My Fair Godmother, #1) by Janette Rallison

**My fair Godmother does shows up in my fairytales 2013 bookshelf but it does not show up as a counted book for the challenge. The entire book is not a retelling but there is a retelling of Cinderella within the story.
