Had a busy night last night: Finished Corum - The Sword and the Stallion: The Eternal Champion, read both The Empress of Salt and Fortune and When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain by Nghi Vo (wonderful, wonderful, fairly short novellas), and started Xiccarph by Clark Ashton Smith.

Aru Shah and the City of Gold by Roshani Chokshi

Finished Xiccarph and started The Serpent, the first book in Jane Gaskell's Atlan series, which I might have last read in high school?

(And both of those could probably also go in the Nostalgia discussion, come to think of it.)

That's the first time I've heard someone mention The Serpent. I have a copy here, waiting to be read. (The one with this cover.)

I got a wild hair and decided I needed the same specific editions that I remembered getting from the public library back in the day, so my covers all look like this:



Happily, I got the full set pretty cheaply -- 4 books from a seller on Abebooks and one from eBay.

Beyond Barlow

I'm currently reading Wagner's "Book of Kane" and really enjoying the stories within it. I'd previously read a collection of Wagner's horror stories a few years back (Sticks and in the Pines are two classic horror stories!) and knew i liked his work. But now, after reading this, I realize I really REALLY like his writing! :)

Small Town Heroes by Marion G. Harmon

Today I finished Salem's Lot by Stephen King. One of his early ones I never got around to before now, even though seeing the made for tv movie as a young pup and scaring the crap out of me. It started off slow, didn't care much for the residents of the town (at times I think King despises small town America), but after it got going there were many times I didn't want to put it down. I gave it 4 stars but thinking maybe it is more like a 3. I know it is much loved by many (and by him) I don't think it is one of his best.
