2012 September Pick It For Me! Challenge
Oh! We have an All Blacks jersey in our house! A gift from my daughter to my husband when she went on a trip to Fiji, NZ and AUS. I love that jersey, although **hanging head in shame** that video was the first time I actually saw the team :)
That's all a red blooded woman needs to know to became an instant fan!I'm definitely buying a All Blacks t-shirt soon. :)
I'd also like to say that I don't understand why more than one pick per category isn't ok. I've done this when I wasn't sure about the pick, to give the reader more choice. Especially for classics or older titles, folks may not have everything that they've ever read on their "read" shelf. I sure don't. So I've thought that adding another title was a good thing, and I'd like to have that option.
Carla - we are going to re-evaluate this policy in the future, but for the upcoming month we are going to limit to 1 pick to try and simplify things
Ditto what Dee said and I would also like to add that if you receive a rec and you have already read it, please ask for another choice. Everyone should receive 8 choices that are new to them, whether from their tbr list or completely new. Please don't hesitate to speak up if you need a different recommendation. Like Carla stated, sometimes you may have read something and not recorded it here on GR. The person choosing for you would be happy to make another choice if necessary, I know I would want to give my pickee 8 viable options.

OMG - I'm such a fan after watching that. Go the Wallaby's!! I definitely want a t-shirt!
Okay, I confess to being a 'Book Pusher' (just ask my family, all my friends, strangers in the stores and the library!), but I promise to abide by the 'one-per-challenge' rule. I always thought it was good to give the person as many choices as possible, especially because they may have read books over the years and haven't listed them all on GR (like me) and then would still have other choices. Oh, by the way, football, please!

I, too, love the All Blacks ever since my trip to New Zealand a few years ago. I really love the Haka, especially since when we saw it done there, they made my husband get up on stage and do it with the! It was hilarious! My pictures of that are priceless and the Haka has become my favorite 'dance'!!

Lol D.G.! Isn't it a cute little kangaroo creature thingie? Not the best name or a tough rugby team I'm thinking.
Yeah - basically it looks like a small kangaroo :)(The way the Wallabies are playing at the moment, it is actually quite apt!)
I`m in, but as a Brazilian I don´t understand either game (I know soccer and voley only), so as I have to choose, I pick baseball.
Penney wrote: "Isn't it a cute little kangaroo creature thingie? Not the best name or a tough rugby team I'm thinking."Penney, a few years ago my youngest (now nearly 18) was playing on a soccer team. The coach let the boys pick the team name. After some discussion the final vote went in favor of my son's suggestion and the team became the Fuzzy Pink Bunnies. The coach initially refused to accept that as the team name and tried to register them as the Rabbits. However the will of the group won out.
Joe explained his team name to me. "Two years ago we were named the Stallions. And we really sucked. We got teased a lot about being the Ponies. Last year we were the Dragons and we were okay but Dragons are supposed to be tough. This year with Kyle, Kyle, and Manu we are really good. Every week that a team loses to the Fuzzy Pink Bunnies I'll get a little closer to my happy place. And if we really suck then who feels good about beating up on Fuzzy Pink Bunnies?"
And you know what? Nobody ever made fun of them (at least that I heard of anyway). Of course being teenage boys they also quoted a lot of Monty Python about the Beast of Antioch being a killer rabbit.

ROFL!! I swear, I love that boy!

Photojim, my son also played soccer (he's now 22) and I can totally imagine him using the same logic in naming a team he was on! And he certainly quotes a lot of Monty Python. Love it LOL
I'm back from a three month PIFM hiatus because we moved. I absolutely despise all forms of sports. But, I guess I'll go with baseball because I actually understand the rules thanks to being forced to play in little league as a kid. I might actually enjoy sports if I could cheer on the Fuzzy Pink Bunnies.
I would like to join in. Baseball is definately better than football. I'm still very new to good reads and I don't have a lot on my TBR shelf. If you happen to get me to pick for, you can recommend some of your favorites. I'm looking forward to seeing what others like.
I'm in and I'm going to say Football. I have no team that I love, but I do LOVE Peyton Manning!!! I was devasted when I found out he has a gorgeous wife and kids =( There went all my dreams....lol

Christina, don't worry if you don't have much of a TBR list. People have made wonderful picks for me and I do not keep a TBR list at all.

Joe needs to move into strategic planning I think. I love his logic :)
I'm in - although I wouldn't count on my answer as any type of indication of personality type as I'm going to have to go for football because we don't really see much (any) baseball. And I have to state that when I say football I mean rugby league or rugby though :)And if we have to state teams well obviously I'm a Queenslander so it's the bronco's or the cowboys (I only really get torn when they're playing each other)

Definitely Baseball! The sound of a Chicago Cubs game, volume turned up high to compete with the noise of oscillating house fans, is one of the first things I think of when I remember childhood visits to my grandma's. She was a die hard fan, would argue with anyone about who was the best player and tell any Cardinal fan around why they were wrong. She and my maternal grandfather (an avid White Sox fan) had the best time of their lives arguing over Thanksgiving dinner about the who had the best team.
I'm opening up my profile for the challenge, but if I start getting any weirdoes trying to friend me like I did before, I'll make it private again.
I'm in and I claim team football. Like Sandy and Cathy, I grew up in Cowboy country...Thanks for the rule clarifications. One more opinion on the multiple picks per category...living in NY can sometimes mean library lists of 30 or more people for a title. I love the option of having multiple books to fulfill the challenge.
I promise, we hear all of you that would like multiple choices for each category. Let's just try to keep it to 8 choices this month and we will adjust for next month if all goes well. With that said, if you get a choice that you would like to read but is unavailable to you, please don't hesitate to ask for another rec. You should have 8 choices that you can work with. Hopefully one of them will work for you and you are excited to read it. If not, asking for another choice is totally fine and no feelings will be hurt!
What do you mean 'no feelings will be hurt'? Talk about the pain and rejection I would be feeling if I would be the first person in the history of this challenge to be told, 'I know you thought these picks were good enough for me, but YOU WERE WRONG!' I don't know if I could handle it. I would most likely cry myself to sleep for days and seek immediate therapy. Years later I may be able to return to the internet with a better understanding that maybe possibly none of the books was available.Oh wait, what am I talking about? I like the idea of limiting it to eight picks. Besides, I used to be a claims adjuster - I can handle the abuse.

That is such a sweet memory! I am so glad you shared it, made my morning!

(Although I do think I've seen people ask for more picks once or twice lately...)
I have not been doing a lot of reading lately, but would still like to be a part of the pifm challenge. Please put me down for Baseball :)
I've never tried this challenge before so I will give it a try. I guess you mean American football and not European (soccer) and since I am not familiar with football or baseball, I will choose baseball because there are less people who chose it :)
MountainKat wrote: "The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each..."Thanks for all you Ladies do with this challenge it is the one I make time for every month (well almost) ...
I'm with some of the others I like getting more than 1 pick per category especially on the months that someone accidentally picks something I've already read. But I'm also a mood reader & a shift worker (soccer player & Auntie taxi) and limited choices make it harder to pick something I want to read that month.
