Yeah they are all doing good. My baby girl celebrated her 2nd birthday on Monday and we've had a busy, busy week. Mum's taking the 3 of them tomorrow and I get them back on Sunday as it's Hubby's brthday this weekend. I'm just looking forward to having a full nights sleep ;)

today 8/9/12 - 5 stars. I loved all the action and suspense in this one. While I didn't love Vlad and Leila like I love Bones and Cat, I see potential there. The feelings will certainly deepen and show themselves as the series evolves. I am glad to see that this will be an on-going series.

And .... I'm finally caught up!

There's a good chance the game will finish next week. If Mr. Randomiser is with us it could be us if we have read the right books. I'll have a lok and see which ones need to be read and let you know.

Janelea | 99 comments Grave Memory (Alex Craft, #3) by Kalayna Price

Ghosts shelf
Read 14/8/12 ★★★★★
Grave Memory, Book 3 of Alex Craft series

I'm glad that Alex finally gets her chance with Death after all those warnings about a mortal and a (soul) collector. They swap essences to save Alex's life. This results in Alex getting a bit of Death's immortality and Death becoming mortal. They are given a choice- Death stays mortal but continues his job as collector (which means he could die while on the job from stray bullets etc.) or they swaps essences back to make Death immortal again BUT Death will lose the ability to swap essences with anyone again. Either way their relationship is allowed to continue. The first choice's disadvantage is obvious- Death's possible death at a soul collecting site. The 2nd would mean Death becoming a soul collector for life. You see, it turns out that when a soul collector becomes tired of his job/immortality, he/she swaps essences with a mortal and turns the mortal into a soul collector to take his/her place in some process.

So at the end, there isn't much choice due to some circumstances, they had to swap their essences back. Thank god Alex managed to cancel the 2nd part of the deal even though she now owes "the mender" a boon now.

It's also nice that they promised to try and work they relationship out after their essence-swap the 2nd time. It's a pity that Falin moves in with Alex at the end at the queen's orders.

Also, one notable thing in this installment is that both Falin and Death confesses ("I love you.") to Alex. Still rooting for Death though.

Crime in this book? A ghoul-like being takes over a person, eats expensive food (champagne, caviar... etc), someonhow causes the body to lose a LOT of weight and commits suicide after 3 days of take-over to ensure the body being inhabited doesnt become a ghoul with sharp teeth that runs around killing people. Several innocent people are taken over and killed before Alex manages to contain the being.

Can't wait to read the next installment! Eager to find out what unique mystery will come up as well as Alex's relationships.

Demons shelf
Read 18/8/12 ★★★★★
The Ripple Effect, Book 3 of Rhiannon's Law series

A great installment regardless of the deaths! I loved the plot in this one.

In the last book, Disco died, Rhiannon goes into the future and sleeps with Paine (Disco's best friend) despite the fact that she loved Disco. She goes back changes history so Disco lives. However Disco finds out that Rhiannon slept with the future Paine and makes a mistake ruining what would of been a great relationship. Paine has the ability to see people's dead upon skin contact- everyone's except Rhiannon. He tells Rhiannon that since she changed fate (as in Disco was destined to die) something bad will eventually happen as he can no longer see Disco's (2nd) death.

In this book, Disco's maker (a guy who loves him but Disco doesn't feel the same way about) comes to town bring his maker, a half-demon. Simply put, yes Disco and Rhiannon comes out alive in the end. But at what costs...? Don't want to spoil it for you guys so I'm just going to say that 2 deaths made me cry.

The interesting thing was how the amulet (which has powers) causes changes in Rhiannon which I didn't realise until Goose (under Disco, but also Rhiannon's friend) points it out. I loved how the author wrote it in 1st person and made it so natural. Rhiannon was thinking about her own life but she wasn't exactly being selfish.... Anyway, my point is, until Goose said it out loud, I didn't realise it. And then she took the amulet off and the change was obvious, she became more worried about her friends.

What was sad was Goose's betrayal, all that talk about being there for Rhiannon and Goose will betray her in a moment for Disco and their "household(?)" since he's closer (well... honestly, they weren't friends for THAT long, so it makes sense).

Can't wait for the next installment. Getting exciting seeing as Disco is planning a revolt against the half-demon leaders.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments A Hunger So Wild (Renegade Angels, #2) by Sylvia Day 5★ 19/8/12

A Hunger So Wild is book 2 in the Renegade Angel series and this installment was even better than the first!

Elijah, the reluctant Alpha who was charged with protecting Lindsey in A Touch of Crimson, finds himself leading the Lycans after they revolt from being ruled by the Angels. He is tormented when he faces the killer of his friend, does he avange his death or accept the alliance Vashti is offering? Can Vashti work with the Lycan's when she is still consumed with the need to hunt down the Lycan's who killed her mate?

Elijah intrigued me from the first moment he entered the story, I was so excited to learn A Hunger so Wild's main focus would be on him. The tension build up between Elijah and Vashti is intense, the attraction is immense and when they give in, the heat is scorching!

Sylvia did most of the world building in the first book so the plot development felt a lot smoother in this one, there was a lot of action and plenty of twists to keep me entertained.

I highly recommend reading these in order, Sylvia left a lot of loose ends in the first book and some are resolved in this one, some are developed slightly but left open for the next book. I would recommend this to anyone who loves an action packed Urban Fantasy Romance.

When Sherrilyn writes well, she REALLY writes well!

I forgot just how much I enjoy these books, lots of action, mystery and intrigue... I was hooked from start to finish!

message 438: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments The Reluctant Vampire (Argeneau, #15) by Lynsay Sands I finished The Reluctant Vampire 8/20/12 and give it 3 1/2 stars. I have enjoyed all the books in this series but they are starting to sound alike. I really thought Harper would put up more resistance after the big deal Margerite and Stephanie made about his guilt. I did like that he found out about Jenny's scheme so he could alleviate some of the guilt about her death.

message 439: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments For the 2011 Shelf, I ended up reading Sorcery and Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot (Cecelia and Kate, #1) by Patricia C. Wrede : Sorcery and Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot. I finished it today 22/08/12 and I give it ★★★★. The story unfolds in letters cousins Kate and Cecelia, living in Regency London send each other. There is magic, lots of evil plots going about, and love at the end. I know this is quite vague, but it was a very satisfying epistolary. I really liked it.

Janelea | 99 comments Darkness Devours (Dark Angels, #3) by Keri Arthur

Angels shelf
Read 28/8/12 ★★★★★
Darkness Devours, Book 3 of Dark Angels series

A lot of progress made in terms of relationships and plot in this installment.

First off, we know that Azriel loves Risa and vice versa but they can't act on their feelings and we know that Risa and Lucian (Aedh) sleep together (their bodies connect or something like that).

In this installment, Risa is angry at Lucian for using their mind connection for information and Risa sleeps with Azriel later on. Azriel continues to distrust Lucian as he is an Aedh, but also part jealousy. I think my favourite conversation between Risa and Azriel went like this:

Risa- Why would anyone go to the trouble of tampering
with his mind if they were intending to kill him tonight?
Azriel- Why would anyone fuck a man she does not entirely trust?
Risa- Because. Despite all that is sane, I find myself wanting you.

I think this played a great part in their change in relationship because one of them finally put their feelings into words. I consider this the turning point in their relationship. It is also worth mentioning that after they sleep together, Risa is less into Lucian despite their great physical connection.

Risa's relationship aside, we meet the vampire, Marshall, who is Hunter's creation. Someone is killing vampires in a room where human blood-whores are killed. Risa must find out who, or rather, what, is killing these vampires to prove her worth to the vampire council. Hunter wants to keep Risa alive to find the keys yet keeps testing her. Hunter is not one of the council even though she is one of the most powerful vampires in its ranks so she must also do as the council bids. Marshall is assigned to help Risa with her mission to find the killer. There was a part I found especially interesting, Marshall is supposedly Hunter's vampire underling with high regards, yet:

Risa- The council might not care either way, but I don’t think Hunter will be pleased if I end
up dead, and I suggest you remember that.
Marshall- I think I have more knowledge than you ever will on just what will and won’t please Hunter.

He said this with an undercurrent of anger and resentment. He probably isn't as loyal as we think after all.

To sum this up, the book was excellent and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series which comes out in November.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Midnight's Master (Dark Warriors, #1) by Donna Grant 5★ 27/8/12

This is the first book in the Dark Warrior series however the series is a spin off from The Dark Sword series and I highly recommend reading those first!

In the Dark Sword series we where introduced to some sexy immortal highland warriors imbued with a God and Druids who where either Mie's & allies or Drough's & foe's. At the end of the series circumstances brought one of those warriors 400yrs into the future and it is at that point we pick the story back up in this book.

I enjoyed seeing Logan out of his depth in modern day Scotland, loved the new additions to the series including the new badies for them to face. I can't wait for Dierdre to finally get what's coming to her!

message 446: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Janlea, I'm absolutely loving that series too! I'm also very thankful for Keri's release schedule as we don't need to wait too long between books.

Janelea | 99 comments Yup, I can't wait to find out Lucian's motives though, I'm pretty sure he's not as nice as Risa thinks....

Btw, I'm guessing you want me to start on the magic or UF shelf?

message 448: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Yes please! I know we have the opportunity for another 4 in a row but we're never going to get there. Julianne hasn't checked in since the 2nd August, I don't even know if she knows what shelves have been called.

I think he is a bad guy, although it may be misdirection - Keri's good at that! The older Risa gets, the more like Riley she is...

message 449: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Ok ladies, we have 2 opportunities for 4-in-a-row this week but to get their we need

Janelea - Read UF & Magic
Lady Jaye - Read Angels,Magic
Cathy - Read Angels ,Magic
Julianne - Read Demons, Angels, UF & Magic

If we get Angels & Demons stamped then we need New2You: Author to be called.
If we get stamps on UF & Magic then Kick-ass Heroine will give us a win.

I believe there is only one shelf left that will not give any of the teams a win so chaces are slim that we'll be playing again for another week.

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Ladies, I finished my read for the magic shelf on 26/08/12. I read Dealing with Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles, #1) by Patricia C. Wrede . I give it five stars. I have loved this series and reread them countless times over the years, and am still struck by how original, refreshing, and feminist it is. The only way I can describe this book is that it is like the Shrek movies, only much better, funnier, more awesome. Cimorene is one of my favorite heroines in all fiction! Plus it has dragons who like chocolate fudge and cherries jubilee. How awesome is that?
