Julianne | 354 comments Tempest Rising (Jane True, #1) by Nicole Peeler
Shelf: New to me
Date finished: July 24
Rating: ★★★★★

I loved this book! I've had it on my tbr for the longest time and it was so worth the wait. Jane True is an outcast in her small town of Rockabill. One night she discovers she's only half human and she is quickly introduced into the world of the supernatural. She's introduced to Ryu, a sexy vampire with potential as a love interest. I adore Jane, while she lacks self confidence, she has an "I am what I am" attitude which is very refreshing. This book has an interesting take on the mythology, it's fairly simple but it works well. What I loved the most was the constant action, it was non-stop. I was gripped from the first page. I can't wait to read the next book.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Glad you enjoyed it, Julianne!

How are you finding not having any internet? I imagine it must be frustrating, I keep thinking I'd get more stuff done without it though.

I've updated the lists and requested the stamp, thank you. I'll post a new list for what we are still working on :)

How is everyone else getting on?

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments LOL!! :)

message 359: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I should be able to get pretty close to finishing Halfway to the Grave by tonight. As soon as I'm done that one I'll be onto Bitten. I'm planning to get that one done in a day on Sunday.

Michelle, you would think that I'd be getting a lot more reading done with all this extra time I have with no Internet but it's so not the case. Between work and having my boys home all day and the fact that I've started working out again, I have no more time than I had before it seems. Lol But next week I have big plans to purge and clean our old computer room and start converting it to a kids room. One of the boys can finally have his own room instead of all three sharing.

message 360: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I forgot to mention, for the Demons shelf I plan to read Reign or Shine (Demon Princess, #1) by Michelle Rowen

message 361: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I understand completely! I'm not used to the 3 kids being at home constantly either, theyreally know how to rile each other up. I'm going to need a hliday soon to recover!

I wish you luck with the rennovations, I know what it's like having 3 kids share - a lot of the time it's not pretty!

I've added your book to the shelves :)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments The Darkest Surrender (Lords of the Underworld, #8) by Gena Showalter 5★ 30/7/12

I loved this book, it takes second place in my favourite LOTU books.

Kaia is such a fun character, she's slightly nuts with severe ADD but that just adds to her character. Harpy's are really viscious and bloodthirsty, it made for an entertaining read! Strider caved i easier than I thought he would. I'm glad he was no longer panting after Haidee though...

I have an overwhelming urge to revisit Kresley's IAD books now :)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I'm doubling up challenges a little so I can't start my ghost book until tomorrow. I am still undecided about my Urban-fantasy. Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews has been dispatched so if it arrives soon I will be reading that :)

message 376: by Michelle (last edited Jul 31, 2012 10:45AM) (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I changed my mind again I'm reading Seduction in Death (In Death, #13) by J.D. Robb for Urban Fantasy :)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Seduction in Death (In Death, #13) by J.D. Robb 4★ 31/7/12

I liked this installment, the mystery part was enjoyable. There wasn't as much Roarke in this one and I love him and Eve together, there didn't seem to be as much character development in this one. I'll still be reading the rest though :)

message 378: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I'll b starting my ghost book today, hopefully I'll be all caught up by tomorrow. I'm getting my reading groove back. I have a load of books to review though. Joy ;)

Julianne | 354 comments I finished my ghost book Halfway to the Grave. I'll be posting my review later tonight when hubby brings home his laptop.

Now I'm starting Bitten for the shifters shelf.

message 380: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments I'd like to change my ghost book to Once Burned.

I finished my demon book, Supernatural 7/31/12. It is an anthology of 4 novellas so I will rate them separately.
Vampire Fight Club 3 stars- felt like she tried to squeeze too much in too quickly. Didn't really like her brother's motivation for fighting.
Darkness Eternal 4 stars - liked these characters. Now I have another series to read (to go with the other 1000, LOL)
Kane 4 stars- not much action, but I enjoy getting to know these 2 characters better. Would not be good for someone who hasn't already read her other books
Dragon on Top -3 stars Took me a while to get used to the style. Would have happened faster if I had realized GA Aiken is same person as Shelly Laurenston
since I've read some of her other books and the humor is the same.

message 381: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Cathy I've just averaged your rating to 3.5★ for the anthology overall, is that fair?

I will change your ghosts choice.

Thaks for the update, Julianne! I'm curious how you liked it...

Julianne | 354 comments Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost
Shelf: Ghosts
Date finished: Aug 1
Rating: ★★★★★

Oh how I love Bones...let me count the ways...wait, this book isn't just about Bones? I loved this book, and overall I loved Cat too, but she bothered me a few times. I understand the why she has the prejudices and the insecurities but there was a few times in the book that I wanted to front kick her. That aside, I still adore her and I think my favorite part of the book was when Bones was training Cat. It was the perfect balance of action, romance and mystery. And did I mention I love Bones? Can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next.

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Glad you liked it, Julianne! Bones is quite the character!

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Ladies. So there is a little change around.

for I want to change my books.

For the Ghosts shelf, I read Whispers Under Ground (Peter Grant #3) by Ben Aaronovitch by Ben Aaronovitch, from July 31 to today, 2 August. I give it ★★★★.

I can't remember the last time I came to adore a character as quickly and wholeheartedly as I have come to do Peter. And I follow the story because it is his story, and not because I am interested in what is happening. If it was another book, I woulda been bored outta my mind, but because it was Peter's life and his narration, I was wholly invested in the mystery and how it all unfolded. Love it!!

message 386: by Lady Jaye (last edited Aug 02, 2012 01:15PM) (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments And then I would like to submit Wicked Enchantment (Dark Magick, #1) by Anya Bast ,the book I was originally going to read for the Ghosts shelf, for the demons shelf (1 person shelved it as demons, wooohooo!!!)

I finished it today 2 August, and I give it 2.5★

It started off really strongly and finished off really weakly. Quite disappointing. You could almost see the progression - in the beginning a five star concept, plot and characters, soon after, 4 star concept, plot and characters, and by the end, a 2-star overall. This is only the second or so book I have felt that way about.

message 387: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments For the Urban Fantasy shelf I will read either Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost or Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews . Decisions, decisions.

message 388: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Lol! Ok, I'll do the shelf reshuffling in the morning. I just finished a board game night with the kids and my head is pounding... whoevr invented Whack-a-mole should be shot!! ;)

message 389: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Darkness Devours (Dark Angels, #3) by Keri Arthur 5★ 3/8/12

I love this series, there is so much going on that you barely manage to catch a breathe. You certainly never get bored. I will say that the more this series goes on the more like Riley, Risa becomes. I'm still not entirely sure who is actually the good guys. Everyone has their own motivations and they're not all in Risa's best interest - if I'm sure of anything, it's that!

message 390: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Woo Hoo! I'm all up to date and it feels good :)
I did all the shelf switching and updated the lists. Hopefully Janelea will pop in soon and let us know how she is, it's been a while.

message 391: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments New shelf is up! It's a personal shelf this time - series catch up! I will probably read the newest Lynsay Sands, The Lady is a Vamp :)

message 392: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments for the catch up personal shelf: Grave Dance
Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price

(Haven't decided on the UF shelf yet)

message 393: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments I finished Angel Betrayed 8/2/12 and give it 4 stars. I liked all the action and trying to figure who really was the "bad guy". Seline wasn't my favorite heroine. Once she decided to be honest with Sam, she didn't really give him much time to build trust before she got upset about him doubting her. Not sure why she had to be punished at the end when she hadn't done anything wrong, but I did like the ending.

message 394: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments I will read Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater for the series catch up shelf.

message 395: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments The Lady is a Vamp (Argeneau, #17) by Lynsay Sands 5★ 5/8/12

Paul Jones kidnaps Jeanne Louise in an act of desperation, believing she is the answer to all his prayers. When Jeanne Louise faces the reason behind this desperate act she chooses to aid him rather than escape and call in the enforcers to handle the situation. They soon find themselves on the run from those looking to save Jeanne Louise and they get themselves in a pickle. Can they convince the enforcers incluing Uncle Lucian to overlook the broken laws and help them instead?

Wow! What an amazing book from Lynsay Sands, it's nice to see her back on top form. Jeanne Louise's story has become my favourite book in the series so far and considering this is book 17 in the series that is surprising. I was so torn up in knots throughout this one and I was rooting for the 'bad guy' to win. I can honestly say that if I was in his position I would have done the exact same thing, I think any parent would...

message 396: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Updated the lists, still some choices to be made and quite a few books to be read. Good luck with reading & happy hunting this week!

message 397: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments I finished Forever today 8/6/12. I give 5 stars to the conclusion of this wonderful trilogy. I might have preferred to see things tied up more firmly (or maybe an epilogue) but the story was just as well written and engrossing as the first two books. I love the character development in this, especially Isabel and Cole. And I really agonized with Sam over what happened with Beck. Fabulous finish!

Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

message 398: by Janelea (last edited Aug 08, 2012 01:43AM) (new)

Janelea | 99 comments Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price

Series Catch-Up personal shelf
Read 8/8/12 ★★★★★
Grave Dance, Book 2 of Alex Craft series

In the last book we find out that Alex is fae-kin (her father is a noble fae). Alex killed Coleman in book 1 and now there is blood on her hands, which shows up when she's in Faerie.

In this installment, several things happen, firstly, there is the pile of left feet found. Whenever Alex tries to raise its shade (which is like the body's memory), its like the left feet never had a body its connected to. Its as if the body never existed.

Also in this book is that Alex gains the ability to create holes in the plane and realities. Due to this new ability she is wanted by everyone. Alex is taken to the Winter Court to see the queen and then rescued by the Shadow King.

Another thing that happened is the discovery of Alex's mother being fae/fae-kin. The Shadow King turns out to be Alex's Great-something-uncle, though it seems like this uncle only wants her for her power too.

I liked this installment as there were a lot of things happening. However, I have to say there wasn't much progress with her relationships. Honestly, I'm rooting for Alex and Death, Falin would make a good partner but.... mm... I don't know...? Yet from what I've read so far, Alex and Falin is more likely to get together. Will be starting the 3rd book as soon as possible.

message 399: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Ladies. For the UF shelf, I read Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews . I finished it today 09/08. I give it 3★. The short version is that for me this book is like Bayou Moon: everyone loves it, but I think it is exceedingly dull, boring and flat. And after all the Andrea and Raphael foolishness, I definitely think much less of Andrea now than I used to. I have never thought anything of Raphael. Eh. As you can tell, I didn't like it. The rating is for the writing. 5 stars for the writing. I took 1 star off for the plot, and 1 star off for the characters.

message 400: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I've updated the lists, you have all read this weeks books really quickly! 4 of the 5 have been read :)

We still have 5 shelves with books to be read though and it's only a few days to the next shelf is called.
