No worries, glad you found us ok. We are just waiting on Cathy then we will pick a team captain & a name for our team. If you have any suggestions or questions about the game - feel free to ask :)

message 54: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments lemme just look up the instructions to this game again first, hold on

message 55: by Janelea (last edited Jun 15, 2012 03:16PM) (new)

Janelea | 99 comments michelle, i'm just reading the bingo how-to simplified instructions. ok, so let me just check to see whether i got this right, ks?

So, for our team to win the minimum requirements would be for one stamp on each alphabet shelf that form a line of 5, ie. 5 stamps needed.

And to get a stamp, you go to a shelf via a link on the "shelf announcement" page, pick any book, read it, make a post in this thread with 4 things: book title, date read, rating and a review.

Is this right?

message 56: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments can i pick a book on the shelf that i've already read, so if i don't remember the date, do i just write "today's" date?

message 57: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Each Sunday (Japan time) Steph will announce a shelf (picked by a randomiser) there will be a link to a list of books. From that list of books - usually 2-3000 or more. We each pick one book and read it. Once we have read it we come back here say I finished this book today the 15th June, giving it 4 stars. I liked this and this but found this to be annoying. I will be reading the next one... Then when all five of us have done this, Steph will give us a pretty stamp on our board. The following Sunday the next shelf will be announced and we start again. The quickest it can be finished is 4wks but usually goes on for a few months.

It's pretty easy once you start playing.

Does that make sense? I'll post a link tomorrow for you to look through it for your free space read :)

message 58: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments okay... so hey - if cathy gets here and i go offline, and u have the meeting on team captain, just wanted 2 let u know that i don't mind whos team captain but i dont want it to be me okay?

message 59: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments That's ok! I promise we won't force you :)

message 60: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Unless Cathy has previously played bingo (and wants to be captain) I would think Michelle would make a good captain, as long as you don't mind Michelle. I have to work tomorrow so I may not be around much so I'm putting forward my vote now.

message 61: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Also as far as names, I really liked

Five Femme Fatales

Also

Five Fabulous Foxes

Or

Five Feisty Foxes
The Fabled Five

...that's all I've got right now.

I was trying to think of something with fairytale(s) but I'm drawing a blank.

message 62: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I don't mind, I'm around a lot anyway - the joys of being a stay at home Mum :)

I like all of them too, I'm a little partial to the Femme Fatales though. I was trying to think of something along those lines when I was thinking of F words. Fairies?

message 63: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments For all those questioning how and when to read for a FREE SPACE stamp, please read the following:

** Please keep in mind that all books chosen during the game must be a minimum of 200 pages and graphic novels are not allowed.

* To get free space credit, each team member must pick a book from one of these three options:

(1) An SOS Book of the Month": Any month while the game is in play (IE: June, July ...)

OR

(2) A book off of any of the group's new release thread folder or the group's new release thread archive folder: Any book listed on one of the new release threads; no matter the date of release

OR

(3) A book off of the group's bookshelf: Any shelf or tag; No date restriction - books added at anytime may be chosen

Q: When can I start reading my FREE SPACE book?
A: Any time after the game has started, which for this round is Sunday, 17 June. Any books started prior to that date cannot be used as your free space read.

Q: Can I use a book I got for free (Nook, Kindle, library, friend, etc) for my FREE SPACE book?
A: Yes, IF that book is found in one of the above three spots, it is over 200 pgs and it is not a graphic novel.

message 64: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I posted Steph's clarification of the Free Space shelf. You can pick it anytime but no reading until tomorrow!

message 65: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I am going to read Darker After Midnight (Midnight Breed, #10) by Lara Adrian I had this one pre-ordered and I really want to read it but something else keeps getting in the way!

Free Space books can be read at any time but it's usually better to get it done within the first few weeks so you don't end up trying to rush through two books to get a win :)

message 66: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Janelea wrote: "can i pick a book on the shelf that i've already read, so if i don't remember the date, do i just write "today's" date?"

Do you mean pick a book you've previously read and NOT read it again? That's not allowed. You would either have to pick a different book or re-read the book and then review it.

message 67: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Julianne, I was really lucky and got an ARC of Gena's spin-off book to the LOTU - I found that I enjoyed it more than the Lord's. I have a couple of LOTU books still to read.

message 68: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I'm planning on reading this months BOM for my free space, Deadly Descendant. I may start it Sunday, I suppose it depends on what shelf gets called and whichever calls to me more.

I've only read the first LOTU book and I enjoyed it well enough, though not my favorite, but when faced with what else I could read, continuing with LOTU always gets bumped lower down the list.

message 69: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I like that series, preferred the first one but the mythology is interesting.

LOTU does get better, some more so than others.

message 70: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Janelea, I live on the edge: near Croydon. You in Central London?

message 71: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Michelle, I've been reading the first LOTU book for over 3 months now. It is sooo bad!

message 72: by Michelle (last edited Jun 16, 2012 03:54AM) (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Lol! There is a definite improvement after book 3, I gave them all 3 or 4 stars until book 7 which was the first I gave 5 to. I read the first one as a new release, my reading tastes have changed since then so maybe I'd rate it different now. I tend to like my books darker now than I did then :)

message 73: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments Michelle wrote: "Do you mean pick a book you've previously read and NOT read..."

no no, of course i'll have to re-read it, i don't have that good a memory, LOL, i just meant can i pick a book that i've read before and then re-read it and review that?

message 74: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments Lady Jaye wrote: "Janelea, I live on the edge: near Croydon. You in Central London?"

central london, yup, londons boring tho, i wanna go live in the US!

message 75: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments Speaking of Dark Descendent, I've also got that on my to-do-list... mmm... heres an idea, or maybe not, if someone else ends up choosing that

hey- are members in the same team allowed to choose the same books?

message 76: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Yes, they are. Some of the new, long-awaited ones are read by lots of teams/players at the same time, too...kind of like a buddy read to the nth power!

Yes re-reads are allowed as long as they are at least 200 pages, you read the entire book and don't just skim through it and it's not a graphic novel :)

Janelea wrote: "Speaking of Dark Descendent, I've also got that on my to-do-list... mmm... heres an idea, or maybe not, if someone else ends up choosing that

Of course you can! We can all read the same book or choose completely different books. As long as it's on the shelf or fits the category (for the * shelves) and has the required amount of pages it is fair game :)

message 78: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Judithe wrote: "Yes, they are. Some of the new, long-awaited ones are read by lots of teams/players at the same time, too...kind of like a buddy read to the nth power!"

Very true! I like seeing how people have different thoughts on the same book :)

message 79: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments cools, sooooo..... team cap chosen yet?

ps. what does the team cap do anyways?

message 80: by Michelle (last edited Jun 16, 2012 09:44AM) (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments We are still waiting on Cathy to arrive and confirm she's playing.

Basically the Team Captain makes posts collating the data, makes sure everyone has posted what they need too and puts requests in for the board to be stamped when we have all completed our tasks.

They may also bring out a whip if people are reading slow ;)

message 81: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments ooohhh, hey its a good thing i've been doing nuthin but reading these few weeks and will still be for the next few weeks while i wait for my siblings to finish skl and we can be on our merry way on hols!

message 85: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Will you still be able to check in, pick a book then read, rate & review?

How long for?

message 86: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments sure i will, course i'll check in, i mean, i still gotta check email for uni stuff anyways, so might as well check in here. but i'm just saying that i'll be online less often ^__^

message 87: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments and mayb take a teeeensy bit longer to finish a book >__<

message 88: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Did you read the rules fully? You must check in every week and the game could go on for 4 or 5 months. Read through them and if you can manage it that's fine.
If it comes to the final week and we are up against another team for the win you'll only have a few hours at most to finish your book.

message 89: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

message 91: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments that's why I nominated Michelle for cap. :-)

message 92: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Lol Steph! You're the one that added the rule that we had to check in at least once a week.

I'm Scottish, we don't mince our words ;)
I just wanted to make sure you weren't going to disappear for 6 wks, you didn't answer when I asked, just making sure you weren't going backpacking through Thailand or something.

My whips been feeling a little underused but I promise to put it away... for now ;)

message 93: by Janelea (new)

Janelea | 99 comments Ohooooo... dont hit meeee Shellyyyy!

message 94: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Lol! My inner dominatrix is sleeping for now.

First shelf is up ladies - young adult paranormal!
The link to the list of books is in the shelf announcement thread, I would post a link but I'm on my phone. I'll check in in the morning, it's after midnight and I'm tired. Happy hunting!

message 95: by Janelea (last edited Jun 16, 2012 05:51PM) (new)

Janelea | 99 comments OH Hey! ur in luck my fellow team-mates, i'm finishing up the last available book in the Skindancer series by Anthony Francis! u kno what this means??? it means if i finish it 2day, then i get to start the one for the bingo!

So, I've clicked on the link posted and gone to the YA-shelf, looked up the 1st 9pages and looked for the books that are: 1st-of-a-series and on-my-to-unread-shelf...

AND, i've narrowed down to these series, any suggestions which series I should pick?
1. 13 to Life by Shannon Delany (4bks so far)
2. Full Moon by Ellen Schreiber (2bks so far)
3. Dark Divine by Bree Despain (3bks completed)
4. Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent (5bks so far)

1st 3 are all werewolf-related mmm....

decisions decisions decisions....

message 96: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Happy shelf-day, everyone!

The virtual tracker of all shelves stamped & all bingo cards is up. I copied up the cards from each thread, and need other eyes to check that there are no mistakes. If the captain or an enthusiastic teammate could pop over to check the notice, then your card and let me know it's OK, I would really appreciate it! Many, many thanks!

message 97: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Janelea, I haven't read any of them, but Soul Screamers and Dark Divine both really appeal to me.

message 98: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Um, has anyone heard from Cathy yet? I'm starting to get a little concerned.

message 99: by Julianne (last edited Jun 17, 2012 12:28AM) (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I'm going to read Graceling for the young-adult-paranormal shelf...it just happened to already be on my planned list for June :)
Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore

message 100: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Cathy hasn't messaged me back yet, we'll give her today seeing as she knows the game starts today (and I don't know her time zone) if she hasn't checked in by tomorrow I'll send her another PM.

I have only read the first Soulscreamers from your list & I really enjoyed it.

Enjoy Graceling, I really liked it too.

I'll be reading Carpe Corpus (The Morganville Vampires, #6) by Rachel Caine
