Good Job!! :D

Hopefully none of those shelfs help other teams. I read that a couple teams already have 3 stamps in a row. Ack!

Shelf #4 ~7/8/12: 'shifters'

Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins
Finished: 7/8/12
Rating: ★★★★
Shelf: Shifters
I loved Hex Hall so much that I didn’t want to wait to continue the series. If I had the money, I would have downloaded the rest of the books straight to my Kindle in an instant. Sadly, I had to wait until the next morning when the library opened before I could pick up Demonglass and I definitely was not disappointed (although now I have to wait forever for Spellbound to become available at the library).
While Demonglass has almost everything I loved about Hex Hall: snarky, sarcastic, hilarious Sophie, hot bad boy Archer, hot quiet guy Cal, lovable Goth Jenna and all the wonderful and wicked things that the Prodigium bring, I still felt there was a tiny thing missing, but I’m not sure what that thing was. Perhaps it was the fact that the action didn’t take place at Hex Hall this time around, but then Thorne Abbey is just as creepy. Whatever was missing, it didn’t keep me from enjoying the crap out of this book. I love Sophie and her sarcasm. Her voice is so fresh and fun and I found myself laughing constantly even when the situation didn’t really seem like much of a laughing matter.
I know a lot of people hate love triangles, but I don’t; especially not in YA. I feel like love triangles are fairly common in real life. I remember when I was that age there was always more than one guy vying for my attention, just like there was always more than one girl vying for theirs. Plus, the triangle isn’t really that much of a triangle, but Sophie’s options are explored more so in this book than in Hex Hall. Although I have to say that when Cal was introduced in Hex Hall I thought he would be a better fit for Sophie than Archer.
After the way Demonglass ended, I am absolutely dying to read Spellbound. I hope that the people ahead of me on the waiting list read fast because I can’t wait to find out what happens to Sophie and her friends next.

Sookie's boyfriend Bill disappears under mysterious circumstances and Sookie and Eric cook up a scheme to find and/or rescue him. Sookie meets and really likes Alcide Herveaux but he's in a bad relationship and her's is suddenly on the rocks so no dice. Eric plays a hug role in this one and I'm liking him more and more but why does he think saying "I want to have sex with you" is going to turn Sookie's head?
I liked this installment and enjoyed meeting the new characters especially Bubba!

Oh Sookie's men...love Eric. His bluntness is so funny. I hope you keep reading, the next one in the series is my favorite.

I'm not sure if I enjoyed this book as much as most people but I do see why so many people have liked it. I really appreciate the authors ability to transform a character. The Yelena you meet in the beginning of the book is vastly different from the Yelena at the end of the book. I enjoyed all of the characters. I liked the connection between Yelena and Valek and especially that it wasn't insta-love. Even though the villains were predictable, it was exciting to see how things played out. I'm interested in seeing where the rest of the series goes.

Great review. I've been going back and forth for a long time about reading this book.

Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane
Finished: 7/10/12
Rating: ★★★★★
Shelf: Free Space
This book was intense!!! I still think the 2nd one was the best, but this one was pretty good. Lots of drama and intrigue. I've been listening to this one on audio because the narrator is REALLY GOOD. The characters have their own dialec and when I switch off to read the paper version, I still hear her in my head. I think listening to the books is better than reading them, it adds a whole new level to the story, but you have to pay attention. A lot happens on each page and you can't zone in and out or you'll miss a lot. Take your time with these books, they're awesome!

One of my favorite series. I haven't tried listening to them though. I think I'll have to give that a shot. The dialect and voice of these books is so original that I bet they are great in audio.

I'm glad Fair Game is working out better for you then the previous books. I haven't read anything in the series yet. I only sorta like the Mercy Thompson series so I'm not sure if I should try or not.

It appears as if one of my books was put towards the wrong shelf (message 202), I'm showing 2 books for Fave Series.
Can you check this out?
Thanks

Thanks Barbara. I fixed that. Goodreads might be the death of me someday. I've noticed lately that weird things have been happening every time I try and copy and paste something. It's driving me batty.

This had to be good; I read it after my main computer crashed, and the monitor died on my not-business personal computer in the middle of a windows update...
I liked this much, much better than the first two. It had a great serial killer plot, and I didn't guess who it was until at least halfway through the ploy.
The main characters stopped whining so much and our heroine used her much vaunted Omega skills for a change.
I will be reading the next one with more hope.
And I am still trying to fix both computers, so this was typed with a stylus on my Kindle Fire.

You poor thing. I'm glad the book was good. I would have been mad for you if it wasn't after all you were going through.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
Finished: 7/10/12
Rating: ★★★★★
Shelf: New2You Series
This was my first "steampunk" book and it was pretty good. I've read Cassandra Clare's other series, so the world was the same. It was just set in England at the turn of the century with different characters. I'm not quite sure what I expected from a steampunk book though. To me, I have expecting Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle and this just seemed like it was an Urban Fantasy book that just happened to have clockwork robots in it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the book anyway, but I'm not sure if it was an example of a Steampunk novel...

I totally agree with you. I loved the book, but I don't know if I necessarily think it's steampunk. I mean it has some of the steampunk elements, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really have the steampunk feel that I get from Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century series (Boneshaker is so good). I kinda feel the same way about Gail Carriger's Protectorate series. That's supposed to be steampunk too, but I think the other elements of the book are far more in your face than the steampunk element.

Between Alyssa's Friday the 13th firecracker display, Daffodil's shelf rebellion, and Deidre's MIB scare .... LOL! You guys are a hoot! .... it's no wonder Miss Deborah is uncertain. ;)
It's official. Our 5th shelf announcement is up. Everyone go find a good 'ghosts'tory to read this week.
