Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hey guys. I know it's short notice, but I'm gonna cancel tonight's google hangout - looks like it would be low attendance, and I haven't been able o read the books this month. Holidays are busy crazy times! Next month will be better hopefully. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to it.

Me too Dragon Actually was awful. I'll see you guys at the in person hangout next month.

message 253: by Marj (new)

Marj (selkie86) Sorry I've not been participating much lately. Life is busy on an epic scale. Hopefully I'll be around more in the new year.

Thank God I'm not the only one! I lemmed it after realizing I was hating every second.

But what do you think of Outlander so far?

I like it so far. Much better writing than either of the other two previous picks.

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments They're changing my days off at work, so I'll be working Sundays from now on, which means I won't be able to make the in-person meet-ups if we end up keeping them on Sundays. The last few I've been to (and I did miss last month) only had 1-2 other people, so I'm wondering if this is a good time to ask...

Do Sundays still work best for our in-person meet-ups? I'm wondering about the majority, not requesting any change for my benefit (although if it works out that way, I'll be glad that I asked), lol ;)

message 257: by Ender (new)

Ender Wiggin (enderwigginout) | 137 comments I FINALLY snagged the book from the library this month! Yippee!

I'm not sure I'll go to an inperson meet-up since I'm broke as hell and sans car.

message 258: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments I'd be up for changing them to whatever works

message 259: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sflanagan19) | 127 comments either Saturdays or Sundays work for me, but I can't do any in person meet ups during the week.

message 260: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments I was also thinking that the new year was a good time to reevaluate when we have our meetings. My schedule is loosely set, but changes a little bit week to week. Typically, I'm completely booked Saturdays, but most other days it's easy for me to request those off if the dates are set in advance.

So my preference is not Saturdays, but I'm fine going with whatever, even if I can't always make it.

message 261: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments I'm off on Fridays and Saturdays, but I'm out of town the rest of the week

message 262: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments I made a whenisgood if ya'll are interested.

Emily | 266 comments Fridays and Saturdays are good for me. I can request off if I have a month in advance and make my own schedule.

Thanks, those are helpful! Everybody with an opinion please fill out :) It will help her see the best time for the most people

message 265: by Fangirlx (new)

Fangirlx | 7 comments Looks like I'm working M-F for the month of January, so I should be able to join in on any weekend hangout again (unlike December). =D

message 266: by Emily (last edited Jan 05, 2013 03:46PM) (new)

Emily | 266 comments Alright so the votes are in. Hope I gave you guys enough time. It looks like Saturday January 26 2pm worked for everybody that voted. That will give people plenty of time to finish this huge book too.

If anyone wants to do the google + hangout they can run it or I'd be glad to make another whenisgood.

So now we decide where to go. Epoch was too crowded last time so my vote is still apothecary.

message 267: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments I'm gonna go out on a limb and vote for my favorite place, Bouldin Creek Cafe (1900 S 1st)
http://www.bouldincreek.com/
It's quirky and has lots of interesting food/drink options, but it can tend to get crowded.

OR if the weather is nice, the Capital City Bakery (food truck)at the longhorn food court has AWESOME sweet rolls/cupcake/whoopie pie options. Would be perfect for a 2pm sugar rush :) They were on the Cooking Channel this week!

message 268: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments I've wanted to try Bouldin Creek Cafe. That would be okay for me since I live south.

message 269: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sflanagan19) | 127 comments bouldin creek would work for me!

message 270: by Marcela (new)

Marcela Reyna | 31 comments I love that place.

message 271: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (wanderingbutton) Hi ya folks! Just joined this group and so excited that y'all are reading Outlander. I must admit it is one of my favorite historical romance novels. Guess I'll jump and read the alternative book. :-) Looking forward to meeting ya folks.

Yeah we are having our meeting January 26 at 2pm at Bouldin Creek Cafe. The turnout has varied from 2-6, but it seems like we'll have a big group for this time.

message 274: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments FYI I am iffy for January at this point and every February the cake show consumes my life, so if I get quiet it's because of that. :)

message 275: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Hey, I just wanted to point out that it looks as though we are the most active local VF group out there! Crazy, right? At least when it come to posts, b/c right now we have 274...er, 275 now, which is more than any other group (some of which are groups for whole countries!) So Go Austin! :)

BTW, I'm loving the Outlander discussion so far. I can't believe how strong people feel about this story, which is awesome for discussion!

message 276: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments Jan 26 sounds good, I think. I've read both of the picks and liked them pretty well. Actually, I loved Outlander. I just got the sequel and have actually found a few friends who are big fans of the series, too. I recommended it to my sixteen year old niece before I got to the sexy parts. Oops. She told me she just turned the pages really fast, but we're not telling her mom just yet!

I'm happy to meet anywhere, so I'll check back!

message 277: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments FYI:Kim Harrison, urban-fantasy author of Dead Witch Walking (I haven't actually read any of her books...) will be in town for a signing at Book People on Wed., January 30 with her new book, "Ever After"

Here's a link to the event...just in case anyone is a fan!

message 278: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (wanderingbutton) Is there an event created for the meetup on Saturday?

Just want to double check it's still on this Saturday, January 26th, 2pm at Bouldin Creek Cafe.

message 279: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sflanagan19) | 127 comments I don't know if there will be an event, but I'll be there!

message 280: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Yes, how many of us will there be? I'll call and see if they'll reserve us a table :)

message 281: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (wanderingbutton) Count me in! With you and Sarah, that makes 3, but I'm sure there will be more.

message 282: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments I just found out I have an interview on Saturday at 1pm in Round Rock, so I won't be able to make it. Grrr.... I hope to be at the next one.

message 283: by Emily (last edited Jan 24, 2013 01:35AM) (new)

Emily | 266 comments I'll be there!I sent the info to make an event I don't know if it'll be up in time. I saw they didnt take reservations but u can try. If anyone wants my # they can message me if they need help w/ directions etc.

message 284: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle (fortifiedbybooks) I really want to go. Does anyone know what buses I would need to take to get there from San Marcos?

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I'm going to try to make it. :)

message 287: by Ender (last edited Jan 25, 2013 06:23PM) (new)

Ender Wiggin (enderwigginout) | 137 comments So...errr...not sure if I'm going to go yet, but how will I find the group if I do?

message 288: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Boo! I have to work all day. Looks like it'll be a good turn out this time around. Everyone have fun!

message 289: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments Ender: I will be there with a purple kindle, dark hair, red skirt, vf tshirt!

message 290: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments And I'll be in a peachy top, light brown hair
Bringing my mom in jeans and a white top, green kindle

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I may be a couple minutes late. I'll be there with a blue maxi dress, coral cardigan, and red hair. Oh, and purple Kindle. :)

message 292: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Bouldin Creek had great food/drinks, and I'm so glad 6 of us showed up! It was a little too noisy for future meetings (unless the weather is nice and we sit outside), but thanks, everyone for a great meeting! :)

message 293: by Ender (new)

Ender Wiggin (enderwigginout) | 137 comments Had a good time ladies...especially afterwards, on my way to the bus, when I was accosted by nearly a dozen peacocks.

Only in Austin...

message 294: by Katie (last edited Jan 29, 2013 09:25PM) (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Congrats to Jackie and Ender (Jessica) for the mentions on tonight's hangout!

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I got a quick mention, as well. I was noticing strong Austinite presence on the show tonight! Yay!

message 296: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments AH, Well, done! :) I didn't realize there were 3 Austin mentions! Awesome!

message 297: by Ender (new)

Ender Wiggin (enderwigginout) | 137 comments Actually 5 in a way. Our meetup got called out, too. Plus, I was the one who started the Laird Arsehole thing in the ALT thread (even though Bonnie didn't name me). Not sure if we can claim that as a fifth, but let's do it anyway!

Austin totally represented!!! :D

message 298: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments So guys since last time worked really well I'll do the when is good and post the event (sooner) in the goodreads forum to clarify. Here is the link:
http://whenisgood.net/xiemftg

message 299: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments Okay only a few of you responded to the whenisgood, so I'll go with what I have. February 16 Saturday 2pm. If that won't work at all then we can reschedule. After a few days I'll tell the moderators and get an official hangout thingy done.

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Sorry, I didn't respond to it. Started a new job, and everything's been crazy. That's my best friend's birthday, but I think I can swing it before I go meet up with her. Now to finish the books...
