Beth | 31 comments I'm in Cedar Park, but happy to travel anywhere. I liked Black Star Co-op, but it was rather loud. But I kind of liked the atmosphere. I put my availability on the calendar that was set up. Hope we can find a good time for all.

message 102: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments I'm just South of Cedar Park, but I'm fine driving wherever. I like coffee shop/bookstore over bar, just because we won't have to fend off as many creepers enjoying our conversation ;)

message 103: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hi everyone!

So I looked at all the responses I got (thanks all who looked at it!) and it looks like the time that works out for when MOST of the group can meet is Sunday, Aug. 12 at 6 pm (I'm thinking a 1.5-2 hour+ time frame?). Put it in your calendars!

Unfortunately this does not work for everyone (at least according to the responses) and I'm really sorry about that :( I was trying to pick a time when as many people as possible could get together, and we all clearly have crazy, different schedules. I only looked at the times for this upcoming weekend for now, and I will sort through the dates for the 4th weekend in the next day or two. Since we picked a date on Sunday this time, I was going to try to NOT pick Sunday next time around, so as to give people more opportunities to be involved.

Also, please feel free to do your own thing, you guys! If some of you can't make it this weekend, then flip me the bird and meet up elsewhere :)

Next thing to decide is the place - so considering a 6pm meetup on a Sunday what are some options? Black Star is open until midnight Sundays if we want to do that again, or we could do some place different. Any good coffee shops that could support groups of 6 or more? Epoch is a little crowded for that most days.

message 104: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments No problemo...I appreciate you taking the time to crunch the numbers!

I seriously tend to get booked out at least a month or two in advance anyway...and with my husband travelling so much right now, I can't do much of anything. I'm missing my beloved Austin mama blogger monthly get together right now, wahhhh!

message 105: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Has anyone been to MonkeyWrench Books at 110 E North Loop? I haven't seen it personally, but the website shows a cafe and they cater to book clubs, with discounts and online announcements. Anyone ever been there? They have Sun hours from 12-8, but I wouldn't pick it unless we know they have the space.

message 106: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Oooh, I also just found Book People (603 N.Lamar) that has a cafe and already has several signings (Terry Brooks, Aug 28th!) and book club meet-ups! This place looks awesome, but also looks pretty much booked (ha! See what I did there?) for this Sunday. Maybe a future spot if we pick a date early?

message 107: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (TabbieTales) | 0 comments Hey guys, Sorry I have been gone! I can't make the next in person meet up. The Boyfriend and I try not to do anything on Sundays after 6pm for the new True Blood. Do we have a G+ page made up for the online meetup? Or does someone still need to make that?

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I'm more for Monkey Wrench than Book People, my vote. Not really feeling Book People as a hangout. I liked Black Star Co-Op, and we could sit on the patio so it won't be so loud this time :).

message 109: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments Monkey Wrench is kinda small. Book People might work but you might have to clear it with management. Any thoughts on a bar/coffee place?

message 110: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Just typed a long comment with a bunch of links, but it didn't save!! Rageface!!!!

So here are places that have food and/or booze because I know more bars and restaurants than bookstores :) Feel free to google them yourselves. I think restaurants or bars will have better seating for a group of our size (which looks to be 5-8 people minimum) rather than coffee houses, which typically have smaller seating.

*Black Star Co-op, from last time, food and booze and a patio.

*Cherrywood Coffee House - Food and coffee and some booze, good outdoor seating, but I think they do Movies outdoors on Sunday.

*Butterfly Bar at the Vortex Theatre (find on facebook) - tiny bar attached to a tiny theatre, but their outdoor seating has large tables for bigger groups. maybe a teeny bit pricey

*The Apothecary Cafe and Wine Bar- looks Ahmazing! but also maybe a little pricey. never been myself

*Draughthouse - a zillion beers on tap, but no wine maybe? (but cider and mead, yes) Seating is hit or miss but I've never been on a Sunday

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Ohhhh, they all look good. I've never even heard of Butterfly Bar, but they all seem up my alley. Great picks, Jackie. I vote one of those :)

message 112: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments If Black Star worked last time that'd be cool.

message 113: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Okay, Blackstar or Apothecary are my picks.

Also, I looked at Cherrywood, and the movies look like they're only in June/July, and not until after sunset, which is after 8:30 anyway, so if people want Cherrywood it should be fine :)

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I had a friend last night at trivia tell me that she loves the Apothecary Cafe when I was asking if anyone had been to any of these before. She also said she didn't think it was too pricey (she's on a teacher's budget). So, I am with Katie that Black Star or Apothecary sounds good.

message 115: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Ok I vote Apothecary Cafe then.

Anyone else have a preference?

message 116: by Fangirlx (new)

Fangirlx | 7 comments I've never been to Black Star, but I love Apothecary! my only concern with Apothecary is space. it's not a large place. Does anyone have an idea of how many of us will be there?

message 117: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments My guess is 5-10?

message 118: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Of COURSE I just got called out on businnes, so now I can't make it. I'll have to catch a flight tomorrow morning and its all my fault for making plans and actually reading the book :( I guess I'll have to try catching the next meeting, but I was really looking forward to this. Boo.

message 119: by Leah (new)

Leah Adams | 51 comments Yikes! You guys have been busy! I'm so glad I didn't miss this! Can't wait to meet everyone tomorrow!

I'm also good with Apothecary. I've never been there so it'll be cool to see what they have.

message 120: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments If no one minds, why don't we go ahead and give Apothecary a go for tomorrow, since we're so close to that meeting. It might be a bit small, but hopefully we can all squeeze together someplace.

I haven't met most people on this forum yet, so look for a dark-haired woman in a long purple maxi dress.

So. Tomorrow. Sunday, August 12, 6 PM. Can't wait to meet you all!

message 121: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments Unfortunately, I'm probably out. I'll try to come if I can, but I'm headed to San Antonio tomorrow and have no idea when I'll be back. I want to come, though, so I'll keep checking in. Ya'll have fun.

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I'll be there! So excited! I'll try to post something tomorrow before I leave that would make me recognizable (my hair is red, I can give that one now).

message 123: by Leah (new)

Leah Adams | 51 comments I had an urgent thing come up. I may still be going, but I'll be there late if I do.

message 124: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments I'll be there. Dark hair red kindle!

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I'm on my way over, I have long, curly, red hair. I am wearing a light aqua lacework top and a brown skirt, and my purple Kindle :)

message 126: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments Hope you guys have a great time...I'm here with the kiddo so I can't come. :)

message 127: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments It was a ton of fun tonight guys! We need more people! Also, Apothecary was GREAT. Go there if you haven't.

Here's a pic: http://www.goodreads.com/photo/group/...

I'll get a date for the G+ Hangout to you guys tomorrow!

message 128: by Leah (new)

Leah Adams | 51 comments Yay! You notice we keep adding one more person each time? How cool is that!?

message 129: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) I really wish I could have gone! I was actually seeing Hello, Dolly! at the time in San Antonio though so at least it was worth missing it. I am determined to make the next ones though! I just got a new job so I'm hoping I won't have to work around it too much.

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments It was much fun last night at the meet up, you guys! Also, Apothecary was a great place, I will definitely be going back there more times.

message 131: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hey all.

So the best time for us to do a G+ Hangout will be:

THURSDAY, AUGUST 23RD 8 PM.

Yay, book chatting without having to leave the comfort of your own home!

I was thinking of inviting people from the Texas G+ Hangout thread to this too, since I know they were interested in trying to get something like this together. I was also going to get this event posted to the VF Group Events so that people can find it that way. Since G+ Hangouts are limited to 10 people, we may need another host - if anyone else is willing to host and moderate discussion, please let me know.

In the mean time, if you're interested in attending the hangout, please send me your G+ link via this thread or by private message and I'll add you to my circles on G+ so I can send out the invites soon.

Thanks all, looking forward to it!

Ummm.... I'm totally new to G+. How do I send you want you need?

message 133: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments I'm here: https://plus.google.com/1083166708388...

I may need to be icing cookies during the hangout if that's okay. :)

message 134: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments After you create a G+ account, go to your profile page (second tab on the navigation bar on the left).

Copy the url and then paste it in a message to me on Goodreads, or in this thread! Should look something like this: https://plus.google.com/u/0/104512184...

I'll add you to my Vaginal Fantasy circle and I'll send you an invite on G+ to the Hangout at a later date.

I should be able to participate! Here's my G+ info: https://plus.google.com/u/0/106231362...

Let me know if you need more hosts, because I could probably do it (though I'm not sure what all that entails, exactly).

Alu (tome_reader_alu) https://plus.google.com/1014284976369...?

Here's mine. If any of you add my let me know you're from the Austin Hangout. I have a circle for you guys specifically.

message 139: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments Bummer. I have a class that night. I'll just have to catch up with ya'll next month. Here's my link:https://plus.google.com/u/0/111467698...

Thanks! (I'm from the Austin Hangout)

message 140: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hey all!

Just a reminder that tomorrow, August 23rd at 8 PM we'll be trying out a G+ Hangout to talk about the books for this month, Ill Wind and the alts, Master of None and Oracle's Moon.

Please note that I must have you in my G+ circles before I can invite you to the Hangout. So if you're interested in attending, please post your G+ profile here or send it to me in a private message. So far, I've only got 6 people added to my Vaginal Fantasy circle, so we're looking fine for a single hangout so far.

I'll let you guys know right now, too, this is the first time I've done this in a large group, so be prepared for a few mishaps, though hopefully, it won't be anything big :) You'll have to be logged into G+ to receive the invite, and I'll send them out about 5-10 minutes before 8 PM. If you can't get on right at 8 PM, just hop in whenever.

I linked my profile above, so if for some reason you're having trouble getting on tomorrow around 8 or don't see an invite, if you add me to your circles, you should be able to Gchat me and we'll try to work out the kinks. I'll also be checking Goodreads for any messages as well.

Fingers crossed guys! Can't wait! See you at 8 PM!

Sarah (sflanagan19) | 127 comments Anyone interested in going to the Austin ComicCon in October? I started a new thread for it if you're interested: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

message 143: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments * raises hand *

I will! I will! If there's a group going. And possibly at some point bring my 7 year old since she's obsessed with comics.

message 144: by Leah (new)

Leah Adams | 51 comments Here's mine! https://plus.google.com/u/0/107148070...

I'm still debating going to ComicCon.

message 145: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) TRying to go to it. Posted on your separate thread as well ^-^

message 146: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hey guys - we had a great, fun time trying out the G+ Hangout tonight! It went really well, and we had lots of fun talking about this month's books, as well as other books, ComicCon and a ton of other things. Way awesome. Here is a screenshot of our Hangout: http://www.goodreads.com/photo/group/...

Let's try to get some September meetup dates settled ASAP! The ladies tonight really liked the G+ Hangout option - Katie was attending from California where she was out on business, and Sarah was in College Station, so this option was a great way for them to be involved even though we didn't meet in person. I know the ladies from the in-person meetup really liked meeting together face-to-face, too. I suggest we keep the one weekend for in-person, one weekend for G+ Hangout option for now. If we really want to, it won't be too hard to add another meetup time in the future, so people have a few options to choose from.

Having said that, here is a link to the WhenIsGood page for the September dates. http://whenisgood.net/rb7y5eh

Please paint in your availability. The 2nd weekend in September is the 7-9 and will be our IN-PERSON meetup. The 4th weekend in September is 20-23 and will be our G+ HANGOUT.

Thanks guys! I can't wait to see you all again!

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I was lame and missed the G+ because of a last minute thing I had to take care of. :( I just painted my availability for the next possible meet ups. So, *fingers crossed*.

message 148: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) As I think I stated I start a new job, today actually, so I have no clue what kind of availability I will have. So I'll either have to fill in my times later or just show up when it happens if I'm free. (much like the last hangout out when I showed up in pajamas >.>)

message 149: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hey all! Just a reminder to put in your availability if you haven't done it yet for our September hangouts!

http://whenisgood.net/rb7y5eh

Will try to get the good dates out to everyone by or before the end of the month!

(Cause we HAVE to talk about this Cthulurotica!)

message 150: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments FYI: There are 4 copies of the alt book "Eternal Pleasures" available at the Austin Public Library. Cepeda, North Village, Pleasant Hill, and Terrazas

I don't recommend placing a hold/transfer to another branch b/c it can take weeks for them to get transfers sorted and sent, but if you go get it, or place a hold for pick up at one of those branches, you'll get a copy right away!
