Alu (tome_reader_alu) Also, this definitely isn't for this next hangout, but I'm curious how everyone would feel about meeting up in another members home instead of a local hangout spot. Not sure if the idea is okay with anyone else so I wanted to get some opinions on this for the future.

Dallas is about two hundred miles from Austin. Don't worry, it's a big state, takes awhile to get used to the size & distances. Wait until you start going to the outlying towns. Now that gets confusing!

message 54: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) I've been to Seguin and New Braunfels because that's where my girlfriends parents both live.

Thinking about it I've been to Dallas for a comic convention my first summer here, but honestly I slept pretty much the whole way so I'm fuzzy on the distance and time.

I'm in the middle of some major work on my house (Yay new floor, rearranging rooms!), but when that's done, I might actually be willing to host such a creature. Say in a couple of months or so.

Yea I'd be willing to as well. We have a "roommate" that should be moving out the middle of next month (She's more mooch then roomate -.-) So after she moves we'll also have more space and I wold be all for hosting as well. Our apartment isn't huge, but we've thrown parties before so I'm sure we can manage.

Beth | 31 comments Hi there. I just found this group and would like to join in, too. Woo hoo! What date and time have ya'll settled on??

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Beth wrote: "... What date and time have ya'll settled on??"

I don't think it's been completely nailed down yet... We should probably do that...

Also:
I'd be down to meet at someone's house in the future, but mine is probably out of the question due to a major kitchen remodel that is about to start.

I'm good for either Monday or Tuesday. Are we still talking about this week? And is everyone good with the Black Star Co-op?

message 60: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments I'm good for Tuesday. I assume we're talking about the evening. Place sounds interesting.

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Then let's make it Tuesday evening @ Black Star Co-op! I'm not sure of what exact time though. 7ish maybe?

7ish works for me!

message 63: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) I would really like to go but I would need to take my brother with me. maybe I can give him my Kindle to watch and make him wear headphones...

message 64: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments I should be there. Looking forward to talking abut the books!

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Just a reminder for everyone, that we are meeting tonight at Black Star Co-op around 7. I have not been here before, but I drive by it all the time so I can't tell you where I'll be inside or where we should congregate. I'll be wearing a navy mexican style dress that has white embroidery. Hope to see everyone there!

I'll be in a red top, and my hairstyle will be the same as in my icon, but it's my natural color now. My hair threatened to leave a few years back if I dyed it again. I'll also have my pink Nook with me!

message 67: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) I really wish I were going and I'm literally right op the street but I do feel that it just wouldn't be right with my brother visiting from out of state. I shall be staying home but if someone could maybe take notes? I would like to stay involved in the group and will without a doubt be at the next meeting.

message 68: by Leah (new)

Leah Adams | 51 comments We had a wonderful meeting tonight! Beth, Tessa and I showed up and we talked about the current reads, our other favorite reads, TV shows and just about everything else under the sun!

I've uploaded a photo to my profile if anyone wants to see it.

Hope to see even more people next time! Does anyone have any suggestions on where or when to meet next?

message 69: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments I had such a good time! I'm excited to read more and talk more and hang more!

message 70: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) Sad. I'm glad it seemed to be a bigger meet up this time.

So how often does everyone think the meets should happen? Once a month seems doable but also seems boring in a way...

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments Hey, I'm in NW Austin too! Sad I missed this thread before, I haven't been able to find this month's books yet, but I'd love to sit in the discussion. I don't know about anyone else, but if I can tell I'm not going to love a book, I try not to buy it (I just don't have enough $ for it), but I can usually find them at the library.

Speaking of that, I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but almost ALL of the new books at the Millwood library branch are VF :)

You'll have to make it to the next one!

Personally, I'd like to see one every two weeks. Not everyone can come to every meet up, but if we have them that often, it'll give everyone more opportunities to make a meet up.

Does anyone have a time/place they'd like the next one to be?

I found out about VF the day of the broadcast for the May books, and sitting in on their webisode is what convinced me I had to join! It's been just as much fun as I thought it would be.

That is so cool that almost all the new books at Millwood is VF!

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I had a great time at the meet up,too! I would have posted sooner, but I had to go out of town. I like the idea of every two weeks. That way there are more opportunities to plan for it. I had a blast, and it would be awesome if our group grows.

message 75: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) I'd be down for that as well. My schedule should level back out to boring soon so I'll be able to plan for it more often. I like the idea of hitting up a few different places. Maybe we'll find the "It" spot for the group. Or maybe alternate with a couple places. We'll see.

message 76: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments Oh man I can't keep up with all of the goodreads threads...someone message me please when there's another hangout in Austin! I'm super-swamped but I'll try to come if I can. :)

message 77: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hi everyone! Sorry I missed last week's meet - I suggested that week originally and completely forgot that I'd be out of town the whole time. Ooops. Glad you guys had fun though!

Would you guys be interested in going ahead and nailing down some dates for August? In line with every two weeks what about saying the 2nd and 4th weekend of the month? That way we'll definitely plan to have one right before the online Hangout for most months, and people will have time to try to work their schedules around it if needed.

message 78: by Beth (new)

Beth | 31 comments 2nd & 4th sounds good to me.

message 79: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments I can't do either of those, unless it's the Sunday of the 2nd weekend and it's also a playdate because hubby's travelling so I'll be on my own with the kiddo. And the 4th is adoption seminar all day Saturday, kiddo's school launch party on Sunday.

That being said I also have almost no reading time at the moment so I should ask if the meetups have required reading or is it just a general hangout to talk about how much fun it is to read about nookie? :D

message 80: by Leah (new)

Leah Adams | 51 comments Maybe we could do the 2nd and 4th week of the month, and switch off between a weekday and a weekend? But yeah, the 2nd and 4th sounds good to me too.

Kimberly, so far it's just been hanging out and talking about the books (with no required reading!) and talking about reading smutty books. There's also been a lot of general hobby talk as well!

Anyone have a suggestion for a place to meet for the next meeting?

Cat (stitchinoutloud) Amanda wrote: "Hey ladies, I'm not in Austin (Dallas here) but since a meet up seems to be in the air for you, how about doing a G+ hangout of your own? There doesn't seem to be a SINGLE other follower in Dallas..."

HEY HEY!!! I think the Tx G+ Hangout is a good idea too!! I live in Houston and as far as I can tell there's no one else here. I would LOOOOVE to drive out to Austin but with the price of gas and all... :( So if y'all are serious about trying to do this I'm totally in!

Cat

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I've never done a G+ hangout before, and am quite clueless about it. However, with all the hype, I'm down.

message 83: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) I'm still good for whatever as well. I've got a lot going on the first half of August still, but after that it's back to my boring nothing schedule. I can still work on meeting for the August ones once we settle on a time.

message 84: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2 comments Hi all, sounds like you had a great time at the in-person meetup last week. I'd love to join next time around. In my other book club, we read very serious science non-fiction, so Felicia's Vaginal Fantasy hangouts have been a great way to be social about all my (previously) guilty pleasure reads!

I read this month's pick, Ill Winds, a couple years ago and really liked it, so I'm looking forward to skimming through again to refresh myself on this badass lady.

message 85: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments I'd probably be up for a G+ hangout more easily than in-person.

message 86: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments G+ could be fun, but you can do that with people from anywhere! I think part of the point of having an Austin group is being able to actually meet up in Austin ;) Perhaps if there are two meetings a month, one could be G+ and the other in person...
Just a thought

message 87: by Emily (new)

Emily | 266 comments I'm new here but live in austin. When's the next meetup/where?

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Emily wrote: "I'm new here but live in austin. When's the next meetup/where?"

We have been throwing around the idea of the 2nd and 4th week of each month. Everyone seems to agree with that idea. That would make the next meet up this coming week.

Some of us have expressed interest in a G+ hangout, and have talked about that hangout counting as one of the 2 times a month we agreed on.

To All:

SInce we agreed the first meet up of this month will be next week, are we going to make that a G+ hangout or an in person hangout? I am okay with either as long as we have, at least, one in person hangout a month.

Either way, we need to get the details locked in now so that everyone can carve the time out of their schedules to make it to the meet up.

What is the group consensus?

message 89: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) If the next hanout is Friday, Saturday or Sunday of next week I'll have to miss again. Going to San Antonio to see Hello Dolly with my girlfriend's grandmother. As much as that sounds made up it actually isn't.

message 90: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Okay guys I have an idea!

Let's go ahead and say that the the upcoming meetup will be in person - I think a lot of us are eager to meet and greet one another face-to-face finally!

Let's say the meetup on the 4th will be a G+ Hangout. Personally, I wonder if this is better suited to the semi-moderated discussion of the books that we see on the Vaginal Fantasy Hangouts because I think general socializing and chat could get a bit hard to handle. Even with the moderation discussion that we watch, sometimes you can tell its a little hard to break in on another's talk. But we should try it and see what we all think.

Soooooo.... I think what might solve our scheduling problems is this nifty little thing called WhenIsGood.
http://whenisgood.net/xesc8dq

If you follow this link, it will have a list of times set out for both the second and 4th weekends. All you do is paint over the times that are GOOD for you. It compiles the responses so that you can see what times work for the majority of people. I promise that I will honestly share the best times even if they're not good for me (in fact, two of the four days in the first weekend are not good for me anyway)! Let's say try to answer by end-of-day Monday so we can give people time to plan around this weekend?

Also, just as a heads up, I'll go ahead and try to message everyone on this thread individually with the link, cause I'm sure some people don't get notifications about ALL the threads they're on. So, I apologize in advance for contacting you AGAIN. :)

Hope this helps! If it ends up being too complicated we'll scratch it for next month.

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments I just used the whenisgood survey. What a great idea, Jackie! I am also good with the G+ being more book centric rather than social. When we met up last month, it was just the three of us and we were just all over the place in conversation! :) Which is great for in person, but not as good for a G+ hangout.

message 92: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments I'm not sure if I should vote then...I haven't read the book and won't have time before then, so if the hangout is focused on that, I wouldn't be very much use to it.

message 93: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Well, we never know where the conversation will go :) I don't think anyone would mind if you sat in on it, even if you couldn't talk about the book. Plus, I'm sure there will be some general chat for sure, since many of us won't have met each other in person, and it will be a good chance to get to know one another.

message 94: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments Okay then, I'll vote, but don't alter things for me. :)

message 95: by Alu (new)

Alu (tome_reader_alu) Honestly as we've seen from the videos it seems difficult to ever stay on topic. That's a good thing though in my opinion. I like having all sorts of things to talk about. This is a book club yes but it doesn't have to exclusively be about that. It can be a social meeting were the MAIN focus is this book. I can honestly say I've finally read two of the books the group has done. One I had already read a few years ago, (Kushiel's Dart) and the other I recently read. I finally actually read Grave Witch because the author was signing autographs at a local B&N. So point being I have no doubt not everyone will read them, if anything though this group makes me want to try harder to find the books so I can participate more. We can just see how things go. I agree that these first few will most likely be just meet and greets until we get our core group finally established. I know Jackie and I talked about EVERYTHING on the first meeting and I think we briefly touched on the books.

message 96: by Elsie (new)

Elsie | 17 comments A G+ hangout sounds great. I've never done one before but I'm completely up for it. It seems like it's always harder to get out of the house than get on the computer for me.

message 97: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackpurdy) | 120 comments Hi all!

Just a reminder to fill out this scheduling survey here: http://whenisgood.net/xesc8dq if you already haven't, so we can try to schedule the best times to meet this month! I'm so excited by the responses already, it awesome!

I'll start late this evening trying to sort through the responses and get the best time for this upcoming weekend out to everyone either late late tonight or tomorrow morning. This upcoming meetup will be IN PERSON, and for the meetup on the 4th weekend we'll try out the G+ Hangout option. Fill out the survey for BOTH weekends so we can go ahead and get them set so people can work their schedules around them.

Looking forward to meeting all you lovely ladies!

Where do we want to meet???

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments We have several North Austinites and above. As I said before, I am walking distance from North Loop's Epoch coffee (so sad I missed the first meet up). I am not sure of any South Austinites, which makes me think some place North Central/Central might be the most convenient. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about Southies!

message 99: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Chapman | 83 comments I'm South, but again, I can't do in-person this weekend anyway. Not with my husband travelling two weeks in a row and only home for 30 hours on the weekend.

For the record I'm near the Oak Hill Y (the 290/71 split).

Miss_Tessa_Melissa | 88 comments Oh, do we go for coffee house, bar, or bookstore atmosphere? I'm good with either. I think talking about smutty books might make us want to be somewhere where there will be a fair amount of other people talking around us, but not so much that we'd have to shout. Wow, I might be overanalyzing this. :P
