I wish I could, Katie, but the first week of August I'm going to be at a conference so really won't have time to participate... :( I know GISHWHES will be super fun, though!

I would love to meet up! I'm out of town on the 29th. A watch party would be cool too, but i think the next show is on Monday July 7th.
Crap it looks like nothing works out. This month's book is really great so far would recommend if you're on the fence. (Its GOT all set in Dorne/Spain)
Last call for the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen! My team has 1 spot left, so if you want to play, let me know! Here's some info: https://www.gishwhes.com/index.php
Hunt will be Aug 2-9. Just to give you a little taste of what's to come... I've already put a hold on a stormtrooper costume at Lucy in Disguise, my sister is stocking up on boxes and boxes of kale, and my teammates are trying to obtain parade floats, pounds of popcorn kernels, enough sanitation items to build a dinosaur, and any wigs or costumes we can get our hands on. (I have the Flash in my back seat, right now.) If you aren't interested in joining the fun, or setting sail on a pirate ship with Misha Collins in Croatia (this years' prize), but you want to help, let me know about that too! Most needed are photographers, crafty/sewing people, and exhibitionists (not nudists...although that isn't frowned upon either. Okay, fine. Nudists are okay, too).
Also! Austin library has both books this month! Yay!
I've own Greywalker for a couple years and I can never get through it but I'm going to give it another go and definitely will be down for discussing.
Anyone want to meet up in August? Genuine Joe's has worked out in the past, and it's been a while since we've met. Sat, Aug 23 or Sun, Aug 24th would be the weekend before the hangout, but I'm free some weekdays too, at least this month :)
The 24th is my husband's birthday, so both days are iffy, but I'd say the 23rd is a better bet for me. Would love to meet up again!
The hangout got moved back a week, is next weekend still good for us, or would the weekend after be better?
While we're waiting on replies about our meet-up, does anyone want to get together for some Cards Against Humanity? We could meet at a coffee shop, or at my apartment in NW Austin, whatever's easiest if we have at least 4 or 5 people interested.
Austin Comic Con is oct 2,3,4 Matt Smith and Karen gillan are gonna be there!! Also looke into Dallas Comic con a few weeks after theyve got River Song and Lotr actors!
I'm not going to make it this weekend :( And I'll be gone again in September, but I should be back for October! Not in time for Comic Con, unfortunately...I'm so bummed that I'm missing Matt Smith!
All right, since last week didn't pan out, anyone else still available for meeting up this weekend, or is everyone gone for Labor Day?Sunday 2 pm.... Buzzmill (coffee shop/bar/foodtrucks/good outdoor seating)?
I'll be there for a little tomorrow. I haven't read this months pick but I read the last two and enjoyed then a lot, always have fun hanging w y'all!
As it came up in the meeting today, if anyone is interested in joining a regular gaming group, Tiffany and I have a mutual friend who hosts a weekly board game night on Wednesdays at his apartment. He has a pretty impressive collection good for both small and large groups. I will be there for sure this Wednesday, so if you're interested, message me directly and I can give you the info! We tossed around a bunch of other ideas for events/activities - does anyone else have any interest in any of these?
- another regular/semi-regular gaming night for just us VFers
- DnD with Emily's group (you should message her for details!)
- attending one of the localish RenFaire-type events in costume and as a group (one in Manor and the larger Sherwood Forest Faire outside of Houston)
- having a "workshop" day to make said costumes beforehand (Tessa!)
- attending a con together - Comic Con in October, and also maybe a few other geek-culture and/or romance-themed cons
Any other ideas?
Haven't checked any of these out but feel free:Haunted Type House these are the people that did the LARP, but that's in May.

We agreed that next meeting would be September 21st 2pm at Genuine Joes. Here's the event: https://www.goodreads.com/event/show/...
Please tell the barista you're with the front room so it'll go towards the room.
Another group/event option: PAX South will be in San Antonio in January: http://south.paxsite.com/ Gaming con including freeplay areas for console and tabletop games. Interest anyone?
Hey everyone! Just a reminder that Our VF meetup is today, Sunday the 21st at 2pm at Genuine Joe's. Hope to see you all there!
Hi all! October's meet up will be Sunday, Oct. 26th at Genuine Joe's again, 2pm.
Also, we thought The Reverse Cowgirls would be a good "official" name for us, so the thread name has been changed accordingly. And maybe we won't get called out for not having a name anymore. :)
Hahahaha, YES!! What a great name Jackie! Sorry I missed yall on Sunday.Jackie wrote: "Hi all!

If we haven't showed up for a 'local' meet before, is there some sort of protocol or anything? I'm in Austin and would love to join in a local meet- though sadly I'll be at the Texas Renaissance Festival on Oct. 26th. Go figure!
Not that I know of! I just showed up one day a few months back, hoping to meet some cool nerd ladies. And I've been thrilled ever since. (^_^)
No protocol here. You can read the book or not. Just be prepared to be spoiled if you haven't. We're in the front room of Genuine Joe's for the meet-up. Be prepared for a lot of tangents! :)
Thought this link was apropos given our new name: http://www.cindyrodella.com/BunnyDaze...This is my step-mom's work, she does a daily watercolor illustration on her blog/FB page. I feel a little bad, because BunnyDaze is actually quite an innocent, feel-good thing, and I feel like I'm sullying it slightly by linking from here :)
I would like to come, but unfortunately Genuine Joe's is too far north for me to take the bus. If the meetings ever get moved to a more central location, then I would gladly come. Also, is anyone going to PAX San Antonio in January? Maybe we could have a meet up.

Obviously I won't be able to make it this month since I'll be at the Faire that weekend, but maybe next month I could offer a ride? I'm relatively near Stassney/I-35. Feel welcome to PM me, I don't mind offering a ride when I can go.
Thank you for the offer, that's very nice of you. I will shoot you a PM next month to see if your going.

I love the name!! I will do my best to be at the meetup this month! I'm finally back in Texas for an extended period of time and am really looking forward to seeing everyone again!
Hey, my husband has a bag of books that he was planning on sending off to Goodwill, and it made me wonder...would anyone be interested in a casual book-swap at our monthly meet-ups? I'll bring some books; you don't have to trade anything to take them, but if you want to also bring books to give out, it could be a fun way to find something new (AND FREE). Anything that doesn't go will just get dropped at Goodwill :)
Is anyone else going to the Texas Teen Book Festival this weekend? Some great authors will be there like Garth Nix, Ransom Riggs and Scott Westerfield. I'm afraid I might be the only adult in a sea of teens.
I will be there! The picture on my profile - 'Stop Looking at My Books' - I'll be wearing that shirt if you want to keep an eye out for me! I'm also planning on meeting up with a few other friends from GR there as well. Since it's @ St. Ed's this year- it's SO much closer and easier for me to attend. It also helps that the hubby is off that day and can watch the kids. I'd love to meet anyone that will be there!
