Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments Ok I finished my Ghosts read!! Everytime I say I'm going to finish something that night, I end up making a liar out of myself...

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Book: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Rating: ****
Shelf: Ghosts
Review: I enjoyed this book, I like Neil Gaiman's writing style but I felt like the plot just died in the middle and then took awhile to get back on the road again. I'll still give it 4 stars though, It was still a good read.

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments I'm having technical difficulties with my Demon selection, I downloaded the audio book from the library and now it's telling me that I need an older version of Itunes in order to transfer it to my Ipod... Very strange. I just received A Perfect Blood last week so I might use that as my Demons pick instead.

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments I'm trying! I'm pregnant and I've been fighting allergies or a cold (or the plague) since the Superbowl. So I can only use old school medicines to treat it. This is the 2nd round of antibiotics and it's making it manageable but it's not getting rid of it.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor
Rating: ★★★★
Shelf: Demons
Finished: 03/03/2012
Review:

Daughter of Smoke and Bone caught me by surprise. The first half of the book starts out with rich, luscious descriptions where I savoured every single word. Karou, blue haired and mysterious is an intriguing character. Her world of demons, art class and Prague is fantastical and it's impossible not to get enamored with it. Not to mention Laini Taylor's incredible writing and vivid scenarios, this is definitely someone who can write.

Halfway through however, Karou meets the love of her life(s), an impossibly perfect seraph named Akiva, and then blooms an incredibly sappy romance that overtakes the entire book. With barely any build-up whatsoever, Karou finds herself absolutely enthralled with Akiva and vice versa. My fascination with Karou dwindled at this stage; it seemed like all of the uniqueness of her character melted away into YA land of a perfect relationships.

While wondering what happened to such an incredible start, before I knew it, again the book switches genre quickly to high fantasy with the heavy involvement of sorcery, demons, and an age-old war between Chimera and Seraphim. After building up world where I clung on to every description, the book focuses on a time in the past, with mostly different characters. It tells the stories of these new people in such a fast-pace that you wonder whether you are even reading the same book.

A few shocking twists, and a huge punch in a gut later, there you have the end of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

Thank you Laini, for delivering one of the cleverest WTF experiences ever. Definitely one of the most unique literary experiences I've ever had, but I would have preferred to explore more of the first half of the book.

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 245 comments Entwined by Heather Dixon
Shelf: Paranormal Romance
Finished: March 6th, 2012
Rating: ★★★★
Thoughts: This was lots of fun.

Entwined is a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses. In this book, the princesses are addicted to dancing; dancing terms are sprinkled throughout the book, which kind of threw me off at first, but got better as it went on. After their mother passes, the King declares the royal family in mourning; the princesses must dress in black for a year, and must not be seen by any outsiders as expressing happiness. But dancing is in their blood, and when they find a secret passage in their bedroom leading to a silver forest and pavilion, its owner extends an invitation: come every night, and dance as long as they please. However, the Keeper has a price.

If you're a huge fan of Disney movies, this is worth a read -- and I'm not saying that as an insult! There really is a magical, fairytale-like quality to this book. It's also extremely witty -- some of the characters have amazing one-liners. Fun and fluffy, with some riveting and dark action scenes near the end.

I have been getting told to read these books for ages and everyone said how amazing they were so I have been a little wary about picking them up in case they didn't live up to the hype. I'm glad I did though because I really enjoyed it!

Mac travels to Dublin to try to find out who murdered her sister but instead she finds out she is not who she believed and her world will never be the same. She meets a man called Jericho Barrons who wants to use her to find a special book but danger lurks.

I had heard that Mac couls be quite annoying but I didn't really think she was so bad. She had a perfectly normal reaction to finding out that things were not as they seemed. Denial, denial and more denial! In her position I would be exactly the same. I really don't know what to make of Barron's and I was left with a lot of questions about him.

Basically before I had even finished this book I had already bought the second one. That makes it a good book in my opinion :)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione
Rating: ★★★★
Shelf: Demons
Finished: 03/6/2012
Review: This book seemed very similar to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but less romantic. Lot's of "female" and "brother" being thrown around in the dialogue. Once I got past the similarities between the two series and started paying attention to the story line the story got a lot better.
