Book 3 overlaps just slightly with The Shattered Sylph. We see all the major and secondary characters in this one. This story is told in multiple points of view; major characters are killed/severely injured (both physical and emotional). While there is a lot of death in this one; it also spurs personal growth with those who survived. They learn what their greatest weaknesses are and also their greatest strengths. The sense of family also plays in the the storyline; family is the family you make, not necessarily the one you are born in. Right now there are only 3 published novels in this series. Book 3 does have a satisfying end, thankfully no cliff hanger in this one. (Which is good as book 4 looks like it's written, but has no publishing date, so who knows when or even if it will be out.)

i will read these two books back to back later on.

Review:A little slow starting for me, but I think that was just because the first bit was talking about the events of Inside Out. Which to someone who hadn't read the first book recently that would be fine, but as I had only finished that book not that long ago it made the story creep along. I just wanted to get into the action of it. And when the action did start I was engrossed in it. I was left just as confused as Trell, I didn't know who was telling the truth and who wasn't.
I am interested to find out if there is a third book in the works for this series.

Review: I jumped straight into this after the OMG ending to Hard Bitten and on the whole I really enjoyed it. In the end it lost a star because while I loved the character development and world building, I knew what the cause of the bizarre events was within the first couple of chapters.

Book: Blood Rites by Jim Butcher
Shelf: Series Catch-Up
Rating:★★★★
Date Finished: 21/Oct/12
Review: Another solid addition to The Dresden Files. Dresden is growing slowly and we discover more about him and his background. There were really good revelations in this book and I can't wait to see where Butcher takes it along.

Holy gaucomole Batman!!
What a refreshing change. This book was a bit dark and edgy. I really liked the post apocalyptic world of magic and tech. I felt that in order to really appreciate this novel I needed to read it at night with a flashlight under the covers. The battle scenes were awesome in this magically confused world of paranormal vermin. I really liked the idea of the vampires being gory creatures that are remote controlled by The People, instead of lovable characters (like Bones (who BTW I adore) in the Night Huntress series). The bad guys were really evil creatures.
Here is the paragraph that sold me on this story. It was in the first few pages and I was hooked.
'It took a qualified wizard to detect a summoning in progress. It only took a half-literate idiot with a twitch of power and a dim idea of how to use it to attempt one. Before you knew it, a three-headed Slavonic god was wreaking havoc in downtown Atlanta, the skies were raining winged snakes, and SWAT was screaming for more ammo. These were unsafe times. But then, in safer times, I'd be a woman without a job.'
My only negative comment a bit rough in some spots but I enjoyed it. I do wish there was a bit more back story when it came to the worlds history.

Review: Well...I loved this series at the beginning - when it was just about vampires and humans...but then the author started to add shape-shifters, fairies, demons, werewolves, etc, etc, and it just got too much for me! Sookie is still a likeable character, but I can't keep up with all the different creatures and if they are good or not. This story was ok, but I really struggled to keep interested in what was going on...and I could tell there was something going on at the hotel well before the events actually occurred towards the end...Quite predictable, and I think I'll struggle to read any more of this series!

A compelling sequel to Secret Vampire. Vampires, witches, werewolves and shape-shifters live among humans without their knowledge. The Night World is the secret society of these supernatural races, which enforces two fundamental laws to prevent their discovery: 1) Never allow humans to gain knowledge of the Night World's existence and, 2) Never fall in love with one of them.
Mary-Lynnette, seventeen, loves to watch the stars from her Oregon backyard. Then one day, she thinks she’s witnessed a murder through her telescope. She’s wrong: it’s only three vampire sisters burying their mysteriously-killed aunt. The sisters, Rowan, Kestral, and Jade ran away from their enclave home to live the lives of regular teenagers. However, when their brother Ash is sent to bring the girls back, he falls in love with Mary-Lynnette.
I liked the struggle between him and Mary-Lynnette. They refuse to believe the are soulmates but end up together at the end anyway.

Wondering why I didn't pick this up sooner! I really like Lily. She is finally finding her place and is unapologetic for who she is. The mystery is a good one. I love that this author has done her research (re Wicca/spell-craft/etc). This really adds to the book and makes it stand apart from others.

Review: I really liked going back and seeing what happened to Anna after the end of the last book. This opens up Cas and Anna's world exploring a lot of the assumptions made in the first installment and showing the consequences of the character's choices. That said I'm not over keen on the cover and it didn't catch me like the first did so it loses a star.
I should be starting my demons book today as long as I can stay awake and alert. I'm all dosed up with antibiotics and lemsip at the mo (stupid flu...two days before my flu jab!) and feeling kinda out of it.

Wondering why I didn't pick this u..."
Glad to hear you're feeling better :)
