Vi | 943 comments Sorry, I couldn't check in earlier. My sister-in-law is here for the weekend and my cousin came too. We just got back from the movies. Congrats on the captainship, Rachel! :)

It's past midnight here and Shelf should be announced in a 3-4 hours but I'm thinking I probably won't be getting up on time tomorrow. Which is great as I don't think I can wait patiently.

Also, I've shortlisted my freespace books. It's going to be one of the following. Two are chunkies and I figure I can take my time and finish once I decide which.

Beyond the Shadows (Night Angel, #3) by Brent Weeks Kushiel's Mercy (Imriel's Trilogy, #3) by Jacqueline Carey Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance

Only 3-4 hours? I may stay up and wait then. I'm stuck in that "I want to start a book, but I want to wait for the shelf" thing. Maybe I should find a DVD or something.

I'll be reading The Hunger Games for kick ads heroine and Catching Fire/Mockingjay (whichever is the second book as I can't reach from my bed where I'm lying with a headache to check) for the free space.

Night all :)

For KAH shelf- Vengeance Born (The Light Blade, #1) by Kylie Griffin

Vi | 943 comments Good morning/afternoon folks! For the Kick-ass heroine, I'm going to go with either Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance or Feed (Newsflesh, #1) by Mira Grant since nobody has shelved Delusion in Death (In Death, #35) by J.D. Robb as KAH. How can they not?

message 63: by Vi (new)

I read Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance . Others love and rave about that book, I couldnt get into. It is one I will read again because I do have the next one and I think at the time I just wasnt feeling the vibe it was putting out.

Nairabell | 634 comments I'm all done with The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins for the Kick-Ass Heroine shelf. This was my second time reading it and I definitely noticed different things this time round. Last time I was annoyed by the similarities to Battle Royale but this time I paid more attention to Katniss and Peeta's almost-romance. All in all it was a fun read, and I'm now off to get stuck into Catching Fire.

message 77: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Yep. For me, the shelf option is good as it has nearly 2K books. If you're going through the release route, just make sure to double check the thread. Though, chances are the books on thread are on the group shelf too.

I havent read that series but have heard good stuff about it. I think Sandra or Judith or Steph can give you better feedback on both the series.

Nairabell | 634 comments I'm done with Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins for the Free Space and holy crap that ending! I am so very very glad that I have Mockingjay ready to go and that I don't have to wait for it. I still have a few minor niggles with the book and Katniss which will end up in my longer review, but it was a great read.

I loved this. This book has everything! I enjoyed the characters and the growth. I enjoyed the world building- it sucks you in without being overwhelming. I like that, while this book is the first in a series, it could be read as a stand-alone. If you like fantasy with your romance, this is a book for you.

I just read that one last week. Thanks to some gentle nudging from our glorious SOS leaders, I started Cassandra Palmer last year, and loved it. So, immediately bought this (and the 3rd is shipping to me right now...pre-ordered even before reading #1 based on the strength of liking CP!).

It was fun! Dorina is quite interesting, and I love her attitude toward dear old dad, and life in general. Very fast-paced action, and good tension all around. Liked the ending, and have bumped up #2! Enjoy!!!!

That's one I read in R5...the next week I happily picked book 2! Another interesting, "real" character with strengths and weaknesses...and I'm crushing on Death :D

message 89: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Thanks, Judithe! I'll be reading the Midnight's Daughter soon. I guess I'll know soon enough.

Have you read the third book in the series? I liked the first book but I felt the second didn't have that much of a character development. I'm rooting for Death too but I hope the triangle doesn't continue. I hate love triangles!

It took me about 2-3 years to pick up the Hunger Games, to read it, to get the others and read them. It's pretty much the DVD release combined with the bingo shelves that got me to read them. They're good, but not up to the hype. I've got things that bug me in each.

Like me. I know I've got Nerd Wars coming up where knitting time will cut into my reading time so I'm trying to get as ahead as possible before that.

I was hesitant to read at first so sat on my shelf for 2 years and finally read all 3 about 8 months ago....

I have things that bugged me too but I cant remember what they were now but at the time A few of us had quite the discussions about the trilogy...

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) Book: Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning
Shelf: KAH
Read: 16th September 2012
Rating: *****
Review: Having read several of the Highlander series by this author, I was looking forward to reading this - the first book in the Fever series - and it didn't disappoint! I was hooked from the first page...The author has a writing style that grabs you and makes you feel like you are sat with Mac at a later date, being told what happened at the time. The two main characters (Mac and Barrons) are portrayed well, and I liked how you are only given little snippets about Barrons - leaving you wondering if he is a good guy or not. Can't wait to read the next one in the series!

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) And the next book on my list (for the Free Space) will be Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #7) by Kresley Cole . It is on the SOS Book Shelf, and is book 7 in the Immortals After Dark series...

Rosina | 1714 comments BOOK Seize the Night Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Shelf Kick Ass Heroine
Read Sept 19 2012
Rating 4.5 Stars
Review I absolutely love this series. This book was about Tabitha the twin sister of Amanda from a previous book. Tabitha is the goth sister Daimon slayer. I have loved her from when she was first introduced and had hoped she would get her own story. She falls for Valerius who was a Roman General. Kyrian who is the husband of Amanda HATES Valerius because of the torture he suffered at the hands of Valerius's family.
There is romance, great fighting action, and stuff happens with good ole Nick (another character I adore).
