Sondra Sykes Meek is originally from Florida, but has lived in several locations in the United States and abroad. She is a wife and mother of two, a retired Marine Corps master sergeant, and a Project Manager in the Defense Industry. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, and has several stories in various stages of progress. She hopes to write full-time one day, but for now, she writes in the spare, quiet moments of her life.

Sondra wrote and published Model Marine to reveal the courage and sacrifices of Marines and their families. She wanted to offer people another kind of hero: someone who is not supernatural, immortal, or from the future. Although the events of this story are fiction, the setting and characters are influenced

I also used essential oils and waterfalls to relax my mind. When I needed a creative spark, I would turn to books about writing; my favorite of them is The 3 A.M. Epiphany. (less)

However, no matter how well you write, ensure your book is edited prior to publication! As a reader, it is extremely frustrating to read a book with a great plot and poorly written prose. I consider myself a strong writer and still purchased two rounds of professional editing services for Model Marine. I have received reviews that commented on how well written my book is. Even so, I will likely opt for three rounds of edits on my next book. The cost of professional editing is worth the results!(less)

Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. I didn't enjoy the main character, and I found the story painfully slow. I'm certainly not opposed to a leisurely or meandering novel, but I need compelling characters, beautiful prose, humor, atmosphere—or some ...more

Prodigal Summer was a full-course meal.

I felt completely at home in these woods and on these farms. I loved learning about bugs, trees, coyotes, and the delicate ways nature keeps itself in balance. I lost count of the laugh-out-loud moments (the old

I picked this up because I was overstimulated and needed my brain to take a vacation. The Immortal Rules delivered exactly that.
