Read books in your genre and read books about writing. These two tasks will keep your skills sharp. However, no matter how well you write, ensure your book is edited prior to publication! As a reader, it is extremely frustrating to read a book with a great plot and poorly written prose. I consider myself a strong writer and still purchased two rounds of professional editing services for Model Marine. I have received reviews that commented on how well written my book is. Even so, I will likely opt for three rounds of edits on my next book. The cost of professional editing is worth the results!

While writing my debut novel, Model Marine, I worked through writer’s block by researching the subject matter of the section I was attempting to write, or by skipping to another section to develop. I also used essential oils and waterfalls to relax my mind. When I needed a creative spark, I would turn to books about writing; my favorite of them is The 3 A.M. Epiphany.
