Author also writes as Pascal De Napoli.

Luigi Pascal Rondanini's determination and tenacity in pursuing his ideals pushed him to leave his native Naples to pursue the opportunities offered by the world.

Born in November 1967 and raised in the capital of Campania, from a young age he cultivated a passion for writing and politics. The desire for social justice led him to actively engage in social issues and write literary works inspired by these values.

At a very young age, he moved abroad to the United Kingdom, where he embarked on a brilliant career in the financial sector and continued his passion for writing, infusing his works with social and political themes with courage and frankness.

Yesterday while reading Act One of "The Ghosts of the Past" with a group of friends here in Brighton, an interesting debate came up. A woman from Naples believes Antonio harbours some resentment or hatred towards the city, but I disagree. I think he has affection for Naples. What do you make of this? Does the text support the idea that Antonio loves Naples, despite his criticisms and frustrations with aspects of it?

Based on the question you posed about Antonio's relationship with Naples, I appreciate you sparking an insightful debate amongst your reading group. The Neapolitan woman perceives Antonio as harbouring resentment towards the city due to his biting criticism. However, I argue that glimpses of affection for his complicated hometown also emerge through his enduring connection to its culture, politics, and spaces, despite frustrations. This complexity aligns with realistic psychology - our birthplaces influence identities while also inflicting hurt, tangling love with hate.

Well-crafted ambiguity leaves room to empathise with either stance on Antonio’s sentiments. The author avoids definitive judgment, allowing readers to interpret this nuanced character actively. The disagreement produced is a testament to an impactful narrative technique that embraces the tensions within human emotions regarding charged topics like homelands. I applaud this approach for portraying Antonio’s relationship with Naples as conflicted yet genuine rather than simplistic. The dialogue generated does credit to my storytelling and characterisation. However, if I were a Neapolitan reader, I have to say that I would be more inclined towards my "paisana's" views. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for that. Regards, LP(less)
