RL (Randy) Blaisdell was born and raised in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest. Growing up books were his window to the world. As an adult, he served twenty-six years as an Air Force officer in posts around the world. In his second career, he worked at a Research and Development Center focusing on cybersecurity for critical systems. Today, in addition to writing, Blaisdell consults on cybersecurity and information technology for customers around the country.

Randy, his wife Beth, dogs Kindle and Kade, and cat Pepper live in the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area east of Vancouver, Washington. You’re likely to find Randy writing in unlikely places. He’s equally at home writing on airplanes, in elevators, or alongside the trails near his ...more

How do you deal with writer’s block?

That point between paragraphs or scenes when you’re just not sure which way your story’…moreLike many authors, I occasionally come to a halt when writing. That point between paragraphs or scenes when you’re just not sure which way your story’s going next.

Rather than torment myself, over what I know from experience is only a temporary glitch, I step back from the keyboard and engage in some other activity. Walking the dogs, mowing the lawn, driving (usually without a destination in mind), etc., are activities that seem to disconnect my writing brain and my typing fingers.

Once I’ve separated myself from the anxiety producing keyboard and the empty space on the page, I find it easier to live in my characters’ shoes.

Once I’m living my characters, writer’s block slips away. Then I’m confronted with a bit of the opposite problem, sometimes two, three, or even dozens of variations on a scene or conversation for the novel. When that happens, the race to get back to the keyboard, and allow my fingers to capture what my imagination’s been up too, becomes my focus.

R.L. Blaisdell I’m currently at work on Cyber Retribution, the third book in the KindleKat Series. Like the other books in the series, life aboard the sailing catama…moreI’m currently at work on Cyber Retribution, the third book in the KindleKat Series. Like the other books in the series, life aboard the sailing catamaran KindleKat is a key feature as are globe-hopping travel adventure, cyber suspense, and a touch of romance.

At the moment, the KindleKat crew are racing towards the novel’s conclusion. As with many authors at this stage, the final detail are still fluid. While some of the twists and turns have been plotted out from day one, there are others that will only emerge as my imagination links to the keyboard.

Watch for Cyber Retribution, Book 3 in the KindleKat Series, coming late September 2020!
