Everyone sees them together, but they've been slowly growing apart, as people do at their very crucial age. Vee ended up cheating on Nic, after Nic confessed to her that he wanted a career as a captain (and that would have taken him away 8 years). Nic ended up not being too brokenhearted about it, after he really thought things through, and Vee got an almost HEA with her new love. (hide spoiler)]
