100% agree! This is a book that really sticks with you over the years.
That's how I feel, I look at the book and I'm like, this book, yep, its like the characters, you know them.
I always feel as though this book is very underrated, it should be up there with Carrie and The Shinning and It.
I suppose it was the timing of its release - and the fact that it was a Bachman book - didn't help with its widespread popularity.
Same with The Running Man, but that's already popular based on the popularity of the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but if they make a Long Walk movie, which is possible since Frank Darabront has the rights, the book would be more popular.
Considering he made The Green Mile, The Mist, and one of the greatest movies of all time The Shawshank Redemption, I think he could make a good Long Walk, although he said it would be like a low budget movie, but it would still be good.
I honestly hope they have flashbacks to the characters such as Jan, and the death scenes to be like the book. For example, Collie Parker, when he took one of the soldiers guns and no one helped. And Barkovich. And art Bakers character Dying would be pretty sad too.
I wish this book was in one of my bookclubs, I feel it would appeal to a lot of horror/sci-fi readers

You don't think? I have had a lot of luck recommending this one. Except to my wife . . . My wife didn't like it.
The Long Walk was the first King novel I read. It remains one of my favorites; I have gone back to it several times.

I am thinking I might do an audio reread of this sometime
Ron wrote: "A fav for me too Matthew. Read it only once, so a reread is something for me to look forward to."
I am doing an audio reread right now! My review will expand greatly when I am done!

Indeed - like watching a car wreck. You shouldn't be so fascinated, but it's hard to look away.

Indeed! Glad you liked it, too!😁

I was listening to it while walking from water park to water park at Wisconsin Dells, so I know what you mean!🤣
This is also my old time favorite of king...I think it is the only book so far I have read multiple times. I can always spot it immediately because it's so used and tattered.

Oh, yes! My physical copy of The Bachman Books is pretty beat up because of reads and re-reads!

I will have to hunt down a translation!

This most recent read was my 3rd or 4th time and I may have to read it again someday. Whenever I read a dystopian, this one always comes to mind for comparison.
It's one of my all-time favorite stories. I've read it probably twenty times. Something about this story just resonates and gets under my skin. It's definitely King at his best.

Your review says 50, now you say 20 . . . . hmmmm ;) :D I kid, I kid!
This is definitely that re-readable and will most likely always be the one I will have read more than any other King. Maybe one day you will have read it at least once for each walker . . .

Ha! This is clearly me not knowing how many times I've read this story. I first read it in middle school...and now I'm older than dirt, so you do the math. ;)
It's definitely a story I plan to come back to every year or two.

Yes I may have to read this again at some point and I rarely re-read anything!

Generally I do not, either, but this one always comes back to me . . .
I have to disagree with your last comment. Paradoxically enough, this book motivated me to walk more!
