Lynda Lovely review, Alejandro. I must admit, I too only know the story via various film adaptations. In fact, I know all of Dickens' works through film/theatre but have never read any of his books! Not sure why; guess they've just always been so readily available in film (which I love).
Your review has prompted me to sit down and read one; I think I will start with Our Mutual Friend - seems very fitting. :-))

Thank you, Lynda. It was the same case with me. I knew Charles Dickens' work only through media adaptations. Due the holidays I thought that it was a good time to try "A Christmas Carol".

And yes ;) It seems truly fitting your choice to start to read Dickens' work :D

Carol Alejandro said "So, even if you have watched so different versions of the classic tale as me, if you have the chance of actually reading the book, please, give it a chance, you won't regret it!"

Totally in agreement with you.

No need to be afraid; they are insubstantial, after all... Y'know, unless they are poltergeists, but those are so rare.

Oh, dear, my books are starting to fly around the room I must go...

Liz Websdale Oh A Christmas Carol. I loved that book, read it as a teenager. It was the first Charles Dickens book I ever really enjoyed. We had to study Great Expectations in my final year of High School - and I hated that one with a passion. found Pip so annoying! If I had to pick a favourite Dickens it would be Bleak House. Has anyone else noticed that every "fallen woman" in a Dickens novel comes to a sad end? Either that or he makes his women quite childlike?
There are so many versions of A Christmas Carol on film that it would be hard to pick a favourite one.But it remains such a great story and has stood the test of time.

Indeed I want to read more of Dickens in the future.
Definitely it's very hard to pick a favorite adaptation from this classic story, since I think all were able to represent well enough the heart of the message.

"Scrooged" is a truly great adaptation, with a priceless acting of Bill Murray :)

message 22: by Liz (new)

Liz Websdale You know I don't think I have ever seen Scrooged and I really like Bill Murray. Will have to check it out.

Suzy Just finished this today, Alejandro, and am checking out friends' reviews. Love your review and also the comments. I will read this one again and maybe try the audio.

Carol, She's so Novel ꧁꧂ Excellent review! I've already shelved this for next year's Xmas read. My second favourite Dickens! Merry Xmas!

message 26: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela How did you like Dickens' writing? I've read a few of his books, but through them all the writing is what gets to me the most. Great review :)

message 27: by David (new)

David Sarkies Great review. I've really got to get around to reading this one day. Oh, you forgot to mention Doctor Who, especially since they are doing Christmas specials now.

David Sarkies Oh, I'm sure that sooner or later, you'll read it ;)

I should make it sooner rather than later. Actually, I should put it down as a Christmas read at the end of this year :)
