I actually enjoyed S&B more because while I liked Pumpkin, I thought the pace dragged a bit because of him and the change in the Darkling took me off guard. But I would rate it four stars too.

Great code! Did you read Diana Wynne Jones as a kid? This reminds me a bit of the character in Witch Week who keeps the diary in code.

Please let the Darkling do some line-dancing in the last installment! I struggled a bit with this one, if it hadn't been for the Pumpkin it could have been a bit of a struggle.
