How is the novel so far?
I just can't get into Scalzi. Some of his stuff is really good and others have been duds for me. I just wish he was more consistent.
Thanks, Wil! In a week or so you'll be reading this one to me! ;) In all seriousness, I always look forward to Scalzi's new books, and I can't wait to download this audiobook. :)
So, would you recommend the audiobook? It has the same narrator as Ready Player One, who I thought was pretty good. ;-)
If this is even close to Old Man's War, it going to be wonderful. I'll dig into the audiobook in a few weeks. Looking forward to heard Wil's voice for the first time too.
Finished the book today. Was not sure about it at the start, but once things started to pick up, I really enjoyed it. Would like to hear the audio book version.
"As easy to read?" I was just going to post something about "You should listen to the audio book!" The best narrator ever isn't suppose to be posting reviews of the books he narrates!!!
I like the disclosure. It indicates some bias, but since it is out in the open, it is OK. I will give the book a try.
I loved this book! However. I read on Kindle without displaying the pages so I can't try and predict the flow of the narrative. When I got to the last sentence and flipped the page and it was the acknowledgements I yelled out in frustration, startling my wife awake. I got in a lot of trouble man! The next book better already be written! I mean, well done and also curse you!
Fan girling here, but seriously dude, you're my all time favorite narrator. LOVED your reading of Ready Player One and Armada!
Dear Will, prepare butt for smoke intake; I'm blown away by your ability narrate!
p.s. for a while I thought Ghreni was a different narrator!
Wil, It's rediculous how perfect you are for reading Scalzi books. Also, I think he adds the F-bomb generously throughout his books simply because he knows you'll narrate and you love saying it with great ennunciation. A gift for you perhaps.
whatever the case, please never stop narrating great stories from John Scalzi.
Thanks for the review, having read the book I quite agree with it. Since you're very good friends with the author, can you get him to write the second one soon??? ^_^ I really really really want to read it.
Listening to your performance now and I have to say I love it. I never knew how satisfying hearing you spout expletives as Kiva would be but it is clearly something I needed in my life! Absolutely exceptional performance for a thoroughly engrossing book. <3 I know I'm just a rando on the internet but as I was listening I really wanted to extend my compliments to you for your rendition, it really made the book for me.
Solid job with the narration! It was hilarious and did well to capture the biting satire of the author and the snark of the characters.
(And to anyone else reading this, I wholeheartedly recommend the audiobook adaptation.)
So happy to hear you are the narrator of the audiobook. You are a phenomenal narrator. Team Scalzi/ Wheaton is my favorite Audible team. Anyway every time I read ( or listen) to a book by Scalzi it became ones my all time favorite. So I am sure this is soon to be my favorite book.
Will, I love your narration. I've listened to most of Scalzi's book and I'm always amazed at your talent to portray different characters. Great job and thank you!
Great work on this! Finished the audiobook today and loved both the writing and narration! Will you be doing the voice for the next two books in this series?
Great review and great narration. 😊 I hope you continue to read Scalzi’s work as you are quite well matched. Thanks!
>but it also has important allegory, metaphor, and commentary on some things that are going on right now
Doesn't he say in the acknowledgements that it isn't related to the recent events? Or maybe he meant the election in particular.
I must say Will, I'm hoping you don't read all Scalzi's books. You're Americans, I get that, the writing style and language has such American connotations that, using his style and voice, god damn, I'm getting fucking fed up with it, that idea that this is written for ANYONE who isn't part of the American audience is pretty laughable. I was fairly excited about this book release but RIGHT NOW I'm regretting my enthusiasm.
In the interest in saving both of us some time i'm asking you to let someone else have a go at reading. Are these reasonable desires?

So....let me get this straight. You're fucking fed up that an American writer sounds American in his writing? And that this American-sounding writer has an American narrate his books? And, furthermore, you feel that somehow this excludes non-American readers?
You know what you sound like? "OMFG, that fucking Agatha Christie, OMG she sounds so FUCKING English ALL THE FUCKING TIME! And that English actor did the audiobook for her AGAIN! The idea that those Marple books were written for ANYONE who isn't part of the English audience is pretty laughable."
So, are those reasonable desires? Short answer: no.
I’m on a “What has Wil narrated” kick. This is hot on the heals of my family finishing a Eureka-thon. So, drink some lemon tea or whatever keeps your voice working... we are ending 2018 in a Wil-a-thon (and quite frankly it has been the only thing getting me through 2018)
