yes lol, it does have that weird affect. and thank you for the rec!!
there’s a tradition/theme of incest in magical realism which is why i wasn’t. entirely turned off of the book by it (as generally incest does that for me), but i have to say it was kind of rough either way. it did seem unnecessary, though.
