Justine I absolutely agree, Marissa, it's really lovely! The cover for the next book is equally beautiful:

A Tyranny of Queens (Manifold Worlds, #2) by Foz Meadows

Amanda Justine do you think I would like this series?

Justine I think you should give it a try? Remember in The Glorious Angels all the really great stuff Justina Robson was trying to do, but unfortunately kind of failed? Well this book succeeds in a lot of ways that The Glorious Angels just didn't. I know you DNF'd The Glorious Angels, and honestly, that was a fair thing to do as, even reading it to the end, I agree that it was just such a disappointment on so many levels.

Now I fully realise that The Glorious Angels is SF fantasy whereas An Accident of Stars is portal fantasy, but I'm talking more about the richness of worldbuilding, including a matriarchal power structure, strong and diverse female characters, and all of that kind of stuff. For the first half of the book I wasn't sure about it; it was kind of a slow build up for me, but it's one of those books I just really ended up both liking and also appreciating for what it accomplishes.

So, yes, I'd say give it a try:)

Justine It is beautiful, I agree!

Vavita Nice review. I love the idea of an average girl developing her personality and finding her place in the world. So tired of heroes!

message 10: by Justine (new)

Justine Yes, I liked the idea that you can choose to do heroic things even without being "special", because that is what the circumstances require.

Claude's Bookzone I love a good story about what anyone can accomplish as opposed to the special chosen one trope too. Great review, Justine ❤️📚
