James Murphy Yes, it's a famous story about Emerson. Ellen died young. Emerson was devastated. His being deeply reflective, too, may have contributed to it, but he couldn't quite come to terms with her death. A year and 2 months after her death he visited the cemetery one night and exhumed her. And seeing her in death in her coffin was the kind of closure he needed. It allowed him to gradually get over her death and to later remarry happily.
