I went to several sites include the one mentioned above which of course spawned several other sites but actually I had to use Google to ask the correctly phrased question and the answer finally came. The book is called Gladiator by Philip Wylie. Project Gutenberg had this book in e-format - couldn't believe my luck. I plan to read it and enjoy it again soon. The book is considered the progenitor of all Superman based books, film, and all other media. Thanks to author Dan Merrit for suggesting this site....more
