Background A twenty-something year old acquaintance of mine is in a relationship with a very good-hearted, generous yet somewhat possessive younger woman.
His partner is very much in love with him and she bases her dreams on him being with her for a long time. She also wants children with him some day. My acquaintance likes her very much and he does not want to hurt her. In addition, he states that he has never met a woman who cared as much for and about him as she does, not even his mother who I'd describe as very ... well ... maternal.
In my impression, the love she feels for him is stronger than his love for her. What's more, my acquaintance still thinks a lot about his ex girlfriend from who he separated about two years ago - to be with his current partner. He seems to feel guilty and is still fond of her. I don't know if his ex girlfriend still plays a role in his decision but I feel he hurts a lot because he cannot make up his mind about whether to stay with his current girlfriend or not.
This inability to decide is making him depressed and as the whole issue has not gone away on its own for two years, I want to help him.
