Tytti It is such a broad subject that I think you should first just read the Cold War article from the Wikipedia and some of linked main articles, and then continue checking the references if you want to know more about some subject. Probably most of the better books expect you to have at least some basic knowledge (like the Berlin Wall) about the world events in general. There are probably some good documentaries, too. (Also WWI and the Russian revolution(s), Stalin's Terror, the Balfour Declaration, zionism etc. are important subjects.)

For example you might be surprised to learn that the group that later became al-Qaeda used to be US allies during the 1980's, as was Saddam Hussein, and before that the ally was Iran... It's difficult to find a conflict of today that doesn't have roots in the Cold War or even the WWI era

Jaylee Interesting. It's kind of why I was hoping for a sort of history textbook or digest version of the last 100 years. I asked the librarians at my library who recommended this book -
Don't Know Much about History: Everything You Need to Know about American History But Never Learned .. by Kenneth Davis. I'm hoping to use it as a starting point to know what topics I should research more thoroughly. IT goes up to year 2000. Should be good. :)

Tytti Well, that's about the American history, so it probably won't have that much about Europe, not to mention the rest of the world where the Cold War was actually hot.

Some school textbook maybe? That's after all how we learned this stuff.
