I loved the giver as well
Try some Wally Lamb: "She's Come Undone" is about a teenage mental health issues and "I Know This Much is True" is an epic family drama involving schizophrenia. I'm sure that his newer books would have a strong element of mental health problems because that seems to be his overall theme.
