please tell me if you pick one like it... I want something in Historical fiction/romance.
Memoirs of Hadrian...trust me, you don't need to boast a mastery of ancient Roman history to appreciate this one...it's just beautiful. Flip through someday and see!
Under the Hawthorn Tree- great novel(on my tbr list and not read cause i'm waiting to read a specific version, it was good in english).
Snow flower and the secret fan also.
for the feminism you I'll suggest looking at the good women of china- I found it very percpective.
both the island and the thread by victoria hislop too.
and you can always try the rules of civility.
I know they don't quite fir to your examples, but they are great historical fiction (beside the good women of china which ic no fiction).
