Rebel Farris started life as a small-town girl with a massive imagination, practically living in the local library. Along the way, she got a degree in Finance and grew accustomed to city life, but couldn't stop telling her stories.

When she's not busy being a workaholic, writing the next complex story that fills her twisted mind, she can be found hanging with her three minions and two pups, Thugg Dog and King Pin.

Because who gives a shit if anyone is going to provide you with a stamp of approval? When Anne Rice started The Vampire Chronicles, everyone said she was crazy because no one was reading and writing vampire books. She did it. She's a legend. Be you. Write whatever the fuck you want. Believe in yourself because you might just be the next trailblazer.

Do you know how many people have told me not to write the story I did? A buttload, for sure. "Nobody writes books that way anymore." "That's a gimmick that's failed everyone who tried it, surely you won't be the first to pull it off." "Why do they have to be xyz, surely you can find some other way to connect your characters?" "Your characters are too complex they do too many things, maybe you should take away a few things, most book characters have like one or two interests." "You have too many characters, while they're all well developed, maybe you should think about losing a few." "Your characters are too realistic." "That seems a bit contrived; you should change that plot point." "I don't see the point of xyz you should take that out and use something else to accomplish that plot point." "In genre fiction, you should stick to conventions." "Your genre always starts this way, but you didn't do that. You should add something to your first chapter to make sure you're doing it right." This is all shit I've heard multiple time on my road to publishing my duet.

You know how many fucks I gave: zero. I wrote my story the way I wanted to write it. Of course, I worked with those same people to make sure that I made them understand and believe in my vision—my story, through the writing itself. You know how many people who've made to the end and still said that shit: zero. I'm the only one who could write my story, who would write it. And not everyone's gonna like it, but its the way it had to be told. I have never asked myself the question, "do people read books like this?" The answer is no, anyway, because no one has ever written a book like mine.(less)

I write every day, but if I'm struggling on a scene, I either skip it, or I work on something else, like a new blog post. I also read every day. Reading often inspires me. Sometimes, I will read something and they describe something that I never thought about, like an ear. I take that and start thinking about my current scene, what do my characters' ears look like. It gets my brain focused on the details, which often opens to the bigger picture. I also write first what comes easiest to me-- dialogue. I will write an entire scene just as back and forth quotes, then go back and read each line thinking about what facial expressions, body language, movements, etc. fit the words. Then, I will go back a third time and fill in the setting and internals. Pretty soon, I have a whole scene.(less)

“When we put our running shoes on and fight tooth and nail to hide from someone, it’s because that’s the person who really matters. That’s the one person you fear will see what’s inside you and cringe. You’d rather live with the not-knowing than to give it a chance.”
Rebel Farris, Pivot Line

“Have you ever met your soulmate?” [...] “Well, it’s not something you want to happen to you at a young age. A soulmate is a responsibility, and when you’re young, you’re just too stupid and immature to handle something that big. You’re bound to fuck it up. Not with anything earth-shattering, but little mistakes here and there add up. And before you know it, it’s broken. And you’re still too young and stupid to know how to fix it.”
Rebel Farris, Pivot Line

“When a relationship is romantic in nature, people have a harder time letting shit go. They hold on to your faults and mistakes like a score card.”
Rebel Farris, False Start

“Only in America—the land of the free—can an innocent person be forced to plead the Fifth for exercising their First Amendment rights. Say what you want, but you better shut your fucking pie hole if it offends someone’s delicate sensibilities.”
Kendall Grey, Rock

“Well it's not really a mystery. It was the day I met you, that's when. You've changed me, Rook. You make me weak, you make me stumble, you make me fall, and even though I know you'll pick me up if I ask you to, it's not enough. I want you to make me stronger, just like I made you. I want it all or I want nothing. And since I can't have it all, I'll take nothing.”

Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

“In this nasty-ass strip club bathroom full of pissing dudes and possible rogue ejaculators, Shades is no longer some guy I love fucking. He’s some guy I fucking love.”
