I am really enjoying it thus far... It's so original! This makes book #4 of Irving's for me. I'm really drawn to his style. I purposely left this one for last...

I really liked The Hotel New Hampshire too. The movie was awful, but the book was great.

I've never heard of it. I put it on my tbr list. :-)

The book is terrific. Tragic but very funny in parts, and it deals with some very heavy subjects. The film is utter crap, to be avoided at all costs.

Thanks for the warning. :-) Irving has a way with adding tragedy to his work. But it compliments it in the most beautiful, memorable way. He's taught me it's not so bad when a book doesn't go the way you think it should.

I agree. His tragedies make sense. They're not there to make the book "serious" or "important."

Not to mention the humor he intersperses throughout. It takes some of the heaviness away & makes it lighter. It's writers like he that makes me want to try writing.

Irving was a major influence in my writing. I use humor whenever possible to lighten the load.
