“If we recognize that not all of our aspirations will be possible, then we can redirect our mind from that “someday” when we will finally arrive (with the job, house, spouse, status, or bank account that we want) to the present day which can be received as an opening for grace. The present may not be all we want, but when it is grafted into a narrative of God’s ultimate redemption, we can begin to trust God’s provision and thus remain open to grace in the midst of the disappointing or even the tragic.”
