“This struggling man must first know Christ. He must know that there is no other source of living water, forgiveness, and life itself. He must learn what it means to walk in humility with his God. He also must learn something of God’s ways. Although God could certainly change us immediately and give us instantly pure hearts, God has determined that change and growth will come gradually. It will come as we learn to trust him and do battle with our sin. This is called progressive sanctification.”
