Whether they’re acts of clickbaiting or dumbness, internet headlines routinely mischaracterize quotes, inaccurately paraphrase statements, and misuse specific terms, all to make readers click. Editors say they’re doing what they need to do, or they argue it’s a valid way to interpret the facts; I call it “lying.”
