Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Ann Marie Ackermann Through bird watching, as crazy as it sounds. I was researching the history of the local German birds for an academic article and read a 19th-century forester's diary to see which birds he mentioned. His diary detailed a German murder that was solved 37 years later in the U.S. The former prosecutor in me immediately recognized how unusual that was. I started researching the German murder and the trail led me to Robert E. Lee.
