Goodreads asked Lauren Handel Zander:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Lauren Handel Zander This may sound trite or obvious, but, uh, write. And when you don’t want to––write more. Whether you’re a songwriter, a poet, a playwright, a screenwriter or dream to be one someday, the only way you are going to fully and wholeheartedly believe you are a true writer is by proving it to yourself first. You have to know you can keep a promise to yourself or build what I call, Personal Integrity. If you can’t trust yourself to do what you say, how can you believe in yourself. And, if don’t believe in yourself and your ability to be accountable for your own dream, how will anyone else. They won’t. So when you say, for example, you are going to write 2 hours a day, 4 days a week, you do. And when your inner dialogue tries to sell you some excuse or other, that you can’t today because you need to be in the mood (and aren’t) or don’t feel inspired––you do it anyway.
