Goodreads asked Elizabeth Bonesteel:

How do you get inspired to write?

Elizabeth Bonesteel Deadlines. Seriously. I've been writing all my life, but it wasn't until I did NaNoWriMo in 2010 and realized that I could actually set and keep to a daily word count goal that I started being able to focus on completing something as large and complex as a novel.

Now when I don't have a specific deadline for someone else, I set one for myself, and I tell people about it. Having external accountability is critical. And I've been doing this long enough that I know, no matter how much I don't want to cough up the words on one particular day, it's going to feel great when I have something end-to-end complete in my hands.
