E.M. Swift-Hook
E.M. Swift-Hook asked Regine Abel:

When writing a historical fantasy how much do you feel the need to be true to history in some way, has influenced the course of your writing?

Regine Abel Historical settings come with a certain set of expectations from the readers which I think we must respect or they will disconnect from the story. Fantasy allows me to take a lot more liberties, as long as I'm not citing historical events. I'm still constrained by the basics of the chosen era though (dress code, social hierarchy, architecture, transports, combat, etc). However, if you clearly indicate that it's an alternate timeline/universe, then you can do pretty much anything.
