Don't give up, especially when you receive your first round of beta reads or critiques. The chances of the first draft of your manuscript being of shippable quality are slim to none. Expect a lot of work rewriting and editing and don't look at it as a chore but as you elevating further the quality of your work. Build a network of friends early on that will give you honest but constructive criticism. Don't rush to publish.
