Marcia Forecki
Marcia Forecki asked Samuel Ligon:

Wonderland is the first of your work I have read. How do you manage to excise every unnecessary word from your stories and make them so sharp and powerful? I write stories in the more vociferous style of southern story tellers, but I so admire what you've done in this book.

Samuel Ligon Marcia, I'm so sorry it took me 8 months to answer this question! And sorry, too, that I don't have a very good answer. I like Southern stories, too, and Southern writers like Faulkner and O'Connor and Welty and Larry Brown and Donna Tartt. I guess, as you indicate, I do try to cut every word that doesn't matter. One of my teachers was Amy Hempel, and I think I learned it from her. Thanks for reading Wonderland!
