Does your medical background help you in the creative process?

Absolutely! I spend my working days in the operating room, doing either emergency or elective surgery and I assist in many different branches of surgery: general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, vascular surgery, obstetrics, urology. My work definitely helps in extrapolating ideas for the future. Although my novels take place in the distant future, many of the ethical questions and dilemmas my protagonists face can be applied to issues today.

Writing a series based on a medical space station feels really unique to me - well done - did you use your medical experience and just play 'what-if' or were you influenced by anything in particular? I'm thinking of things like DS9 & Babylon 5 which were unique when they first came about - a contained tv show about life on a space station.
