asked:
Since this has been published in 2009 the field of constructed languages has evolved a lot (Hollywood languages, more sources online) am I right? Would be fun to get to read sth. more recent on the topic. I am aware of David Peterson and loved his book but I mean sth. discussing the phenomenon in general without focusing too much on one language. Any suggestions? Thanks!

in my opinion, yes it's worth it becaus it talks pretty generally about the mechanisms, and most of all, the goals of inventing a new language, rather than describing a list of languages.
It uses notable historical example in order to explain some misconceptions about invented languages, their goal and utility.
